Our K-8 Charter School in Durham, NC is seeking a passionate and experienced Part-time Theatre Teacher to join our creative arts department. The Theatre Teacher will be responsible for creating engaging and inclusive theatre lessons and activities that foster creativity, collaboration, and self-expression in our students.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive theatre curriculum for students in grades K-8. Provide instruction in theatre arts, including acting, stagecraft, improvisation, and dramatic literature. Collaborate with other teachers to integrate theatre concepts and performances into other subject areas. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that allows students to explore and develop their creative potential. Direct and organize student performances, such as plays, musicals, and skits, involving students in all aspects of production. Teach skills such as voice projection, articulation, stage presence, and emotional expression. Facilitate the development of students’ confidence, communication skills, and teamwork through theatrical experiences. Incorporate technology and multimedia resources to enhance learning and production elements. Assess and evaluate student progress through performances, projects, and assessments, providing constructive feedback. Collaborate with parents, guardians, and community partners to support and promote theatre arts. Stay informed about current trends and best practices in theatre education through professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Previous teaching experience in theatre arts at the elementary or middle school level. A comprehensive understanding of theatre arts, including acting techniques, stagecraft, and theatrical history. Strong organizational skills to manage rehearsals, performances, and other theatre-related events. Ability to create engaging lesson plans and activities that meet grade-level standards and promote creative expression. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. A passion for inspiring and empowering students through theatre arts. Patience, flexibility, and adaptability to meet diverse student needs and learning styles. Experience directing student performances or productions is a plus. Familiarity with theater technology and equipment is desirable.
