Our Performing Arts program isculturally-responsive, fast-paced, and fun—with plenty of acting,dancing, and singing in every lesson. Teachers cultivatecommunication skills and build student self-confidence by sharingtheir expertise in musical theater. We have built a community thatencourages respect, hard work, and celebrates our students academicand nonacademic achievements. Our performance based program goal isto train students to express their authentic unique selves withconfidence. Responsibilities 1. Instruction You’ll create anenvironment where students feel empowered to express themselvesthrough song, dance, and drama. You’ll help build students’confidence by teaching them enunciation, projecting voices, andpublic speaking. You’ll orchestrate culturally relevant in-classtheatre activities. You’ll collaborate with fellow performing artsteachers to develop a network-wide curriculum. 2. Producing You’lldirect annual productions that enhance and reflect school culture.
You’ll review scripts annually. You’ll create or order costumes,production sets, and props when needed. You’ll craft productionelements such as lights, sound, and set. 3. School Culture andDaily School Activities You’ll build positive relationships withstudents to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard. You’ll partnerwith students’ families to ensure appropriate resources areavailable to support their child’s learning needs. You’ll engage inpractice-based professional development, mentorship, and coachingsessions. You’ll support morning arrival, lunch duty, studentassemblies, class transitions, and after-school dismissal.

Required Experience:
Aminimum of 2 years of combined experience as a performer, producer,playwright, director, and/or technical support. Prior to the startof employment, you must have a bachelor’s degree from an accreditedcollege or university. Certification is not required to be hired atUncommon, but you do need to meet NY state certificationeligibility requirements. To meet these requirements, you mustenroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5or higher during your employment with us if you do not have adegree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required tobecome certified in the state of New York within a reasonableperiod after beginning employment. Additional Information Ourpeople are what make us Uncommon. Ourcompensation philosophy values equity & fairness and attracting &retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation for this role isbetween $50,000 to $64,700. Most candidates who meet jobdescription requirements will receive an offer of $50,000 -$54,100. Starting pay is determined using various factors includingbut not limited to relevant professional development, educationcertifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
