Our Performing Arts program isculturally-responsive, fast-paced, and fun—with plenty of acting,dancing, and singing in every lesson. Teachers cultivatecommunication skills and build student self-confidence by sharingtheir expertise in musical theater. We have built a community thatencourages respect, hard work, and celebrates our students academicand nonacademic achievements. Our performance based program goal isto train students to express their authentic unique selves withconfidence. Responsibilities 1. Instruction
- You’ll create anenvironment where students feel empowered to express themselvesthrough song, dance, and drama.
- You’ll help build students’confidence by teaching them enunciation, projecting voices, andpublic speaking.
- You’ll orchestrate culturally relevant in-classtheatre activities.
- You’ll collaborate with fellow performingarts teachers to develop a network-wide curriculum. 2. Producing
- You’ll direct annual productions that enhance and reflect schoolculture.
- You’ll review scripts annually.
- You’ll create or ordercostumes, production sets, and props when needed.
- You’ll craftproduction elements such as lights, sound, and set. 3. SchoolCulture and Daily School Activities
- You’ll build positiverelationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, andheard.
- You’ll partner with students’ families to ensureappropriate resources are available to support their child’slearning needs.
- You’ll engage in practice-based professionaldevelopment, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
- You’ll supportmorning arrival, lunch duty, student assemblies, class transitions,and after-school dismissal. Qualifications

Required Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of combinedexperience as a performer, producer, playwright, director, and/ortechnical support.
- Prior to the start of employment, you musthave a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you doneed to meet NY state certification eligibility requirements. Tomeet these requirements, you must enroll in a teacher preparationprogram and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during your employmentwith us if you do not have a degree in education. Uncommon Schoolsteachers are required to become certified in the state of New Yorkwithin a reasonable period after beginning employment. AdditionalInformation Our people are what make us Uncommon. Our compensation philosophy values equity & fairness andattracting & retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation forthis role is between $50,000 to $64,700. Most candidates who meetjob description requirements will receive an offer of $50,000
- $54,100. Starting pay is determined using various factors includingbut not limited to relevant professional development, educationcertifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Benefits
