Job Description

Rye Country Day School is seeking an Upper School Drama Teacher beginning August 2025. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, Prek-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include: + Teach the equivalent of four Upper School sections of theatre, public speaking, etc + Collaborate with colleagues to develop a dynamic curriculum that fosters a love of theater and the arts, and builds student empathy, creativity, and analytical skills + Develop daily lessons that produce a high-level of student engagement in a student-centered environment + Grade and evaluate student assignments and arts projects; provide timely, constructive feedback of their work + Direct shows, produce, and collaborate with the Music Department + Demonstrate an approach that is nurturing and supportive of students and faculty + Communicate professionally and effectively with administrators, colleagues, and parents + Demonstrate an interest in professional development, particularly to stay current and explore new ideas in the discipline + Serve as an Academic Advisor + Participate in faculty and department meetings, field trips, special activities, and rotational duties + Regularly write reports that evaluate student performance and demonstrate knowledge of students’ experiences Desired qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in Theater/Performing Arts or similar subject area; Master’s degree or higher preferred + 3-5 years of experience teaching performing arts at the Upper School level + A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion + Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; a positive attitude, energy, and an inspiring and entrepreneurial leadership style + Excitement for working with Upper School students + Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills + Ability to support the extra-curricular life of the school RCDS seeks faculty and staff who support our mission to foster a lifelong passion for learning, understanding, and service in an ever-changing world, and who share our commitment to creating and sustaining a vibrant, thriving, and inclusive multicultural learning community.
