Job Description
Film Teacher and Artist in Residence at
TAPA:
Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RI
TAPA:
Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a Film Teacher to join our thriving program of film instruction for students in grades 5-12, with a particular focus on students in grades 5-9. Our vibrant school community comprises students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, and we are committed to creating an educational experience that honors and reflects their identities.
At TAPA, the ideal candidate will inspire and empower students through the art of film, while also celebrating the stories and perspectives that shape their lives. Our curriculum emphasizes the exploration of a variety of cultural traditions and histories, with a focus on the experiences and contributions of Latinae/Hispanic and Black communities. The ideal candidate also values the connections between film and academic learning, and brings a student-centered, inclusive approach to instruction.
TAPA’s creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. Many of TAPA’s students identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community. We aim to hire educators and staff members who reflect the diversity of our students and who demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and experiences they bring.
At TAPA, the arts are deeply embedded into the core of interdisciplinary learning. TAPA prepares students to successfully meet or exceed Rhode Island’s graduation requirements and perform at (or above) grade level on all state and local assessments. TAPA meets each student’s individual academic needs using assessment data and continuous feedback, while providing clear academic, social, and artistic expectations.
At its core, TAPA is a student-centered, caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Respect for varied experiences and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning are foundational to our school culture. Candidates with backgrounds or experiences that contribute to this work are encouraged to apply.
