Campus Location:

Walters State Community College – Morristown Campus ( Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose:

Provides instruction in Theatre, Music, and other Humanities courses as needed; supervises the development of a comprehensive Theatre program; responsible for directing two theatre productions per academic year; coordinates partnerships with community theatre organizations to include shared rehearsal space and possible joint productions.

Essential Job Functions:

Teach Theatre and Humanities courses, as needed. Prepare course syllabi, course materials, evaluate student learning, and maintain class records. Direct/produce/stage theatre performances within the Department of Music and Theatre. Participate in curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, retention, department/division meetings, mobilization efforts, and college committees. Establish and maintain relationships with community arts organizations. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree with eighteen (18) or more graduate hours in Theatre from a regionally accredited institution Experience in directing Theatre productions at the college level. College-level teaching experience in both in-person and in online course formats. Commitment to student success as demonstrated through positive results of student course evaluations and/or written application materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

Concentration in Directing in Theatre degree. Eighteen or more hours of graduate-level course work in another Humanities Discipline such as Communication or Music from a regionally-accredited institution.

Behavioral Core Competencies:

Teaching competence in Theatre and applicable software with the ability to communicate effectively and to interact with campus and community positively to develop a cohesive program. Empowers and motivates students to learn effectively. Strong leadership and motivational skills are essential. Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences. Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community. Works effectively with other faculty and administrators within the department, the division, and the college to provide well-developed courses and programs of study. Is a team player and contributes to the department and the division with new ideas and approaches, and uses professional development opportunities to expand instructional vision.

Leadership & Supervisory:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to participate as part of a team in conjunction with other faculty and as a member of the Humanities division.

Environment & Working Conditions:

Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. Could be exposed to varying weather conditions when travelling. Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays): Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues. Operation of standard office equipment including copier and fax machine. Repetitive stress injuries could occur. Travel to local areas may be required.
