Orientation Classroom Instructor 3.2 3.2 out of 5 stars 3900 Acipco Industrial Dr, Birmingham, AL 35214 We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Orientation Classroom Instructor to lead our weekly driver orientation program. This role is critical in ensuring incoming drivers are fully equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in the flatbed trucking industry. The ideal candidate will be experienced in trucking operations, DOT/FMCSA regulations, paperwork processes, and hands-on load securement training. This is a frontline position that directly shapes the quality and safety of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate weekly driver orientation for new hires, including first-seat company drivers, lease-purchase drivers, and rehires. Deliver engaging training sessions covering company policies, FMCSA/DOT regulations, safety procedures, HOS (Hours of Service), and driver expectations. Provide spoken instruction for load securement, flatbed equipment usage (chains, binders, tarps), and best practices. Review and complete new hire paperwork, including I-9, W-4, direct deposit, benefits enrollment, and ELD training. Assist with road tests and safety evaluations on all new driver hires if applicable. Ensure all documentation is properly completed, scanned, and submitted for compliance and payroll. Act as the first point of contact for driver questions or concerns during orientation. Work closely with recruiting, safety, operations, and HR departments to ensure smooth onboarding. Continually update orientation materials and presentations as regulations and policies change. Monitor and report attendance, pass/fail metrics, and candidate readiness to management.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in the trucking industry (flatbed preferred), operations, safety, or driver training. Strong understanding of FMCSA, DOT, and HOS regulations. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead and manage a classroom environment and adapt to different learning styles. CDL-A preferred but not required Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask. Proficient in basic computer systems, including Microsoft Office and ELD systems.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in driver onboarding or training programs. Knowledge of flatbed-specific equipment and securement standards. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. OSHA or safety certification is a bonus.
