SEASONAL SAILING INSTRUCTOR 4.2 4.2

out of 5 stars 59 Town Hall Square, Falmouth, MA 02540 The Town of Falmouth is currently seeking applicants to work as a Seasonal Sailing Instructor for our Recreation Department’s Summer Sailing Program. This position works from late June through July, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with occasional work on Fridays. Applicants who cannot commit to the full schedule are encouraged to apply and to note their availability in their application. Seasonal Sailing Instructors are responsible for teaching sailing techniques, boating safety, and maritime skills to participants of the Falmouth Recreation Summer Sailing Program. These positions ensure a safe and educational environment while fostering a love for sailing among youth and adults.

These positions:

Plan and implement sailing lessons appropriate for various skill levels, from beginners to intermediate sailors. Provide hands-on instruction in boat rigging, sailing maneuvers, navigation, and water safety. Supervise participants both on the water and onshore, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times. Conduct safety checks on boats and equipment before and after use, reporting any maintenance needs. Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. Promote teamwork, responsibility, and respect among participants. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and program staff. Assist with program setup, breakdown, and equipment storage. Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, be able to pass a pre-employment CORI criminal background check, and be CPR/First Aid certified or be able to obtain certification through Town-sponsored training. U.S. Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification, Lifeguard certification, and prior experience in sailing instruction, coaching, or competitive sailing are preferred. The successful candidate has a strong swimming ability and strong knowledge of sailing fundamentals, navigation, and boat handling. The ideal candidate has excellent communication and leadership skills.

Compensation:

The pay for the first season of employment is $20.51/hour for a successful candidate who has obtained the U.S. Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification and $19.17/hour for non-certified instructors.
