Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Automotive Technology Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in automotive repair, maintenance, diagnostics, and safety. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop technical skills, industry knowledge, and employability skills necessary to succeed in the automotive industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Associates degree in Automotive Technology or a related field.
2. Appropriate Vocational/CTE certification/license in Automotive Technology required by Massachusetts Department of Education.
3. Three (3) years of recent, relevant experience in the automotive industry is preferred.
4. Possess ASE certifications
5. Prior teaching experience in a high school or vocational setting is preferred but not required.
6. Strong technical knowledge in all facets of automotive repair and diagnostics.
7. Familiarity with educational technologies, such as diagnostic software, simulation tools, and other instructional resources.
8. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Is responsible to the CTE Director or his/her designee; must work cooperatively with other professional personnel; may supervise the work of instructional learning assistants, teacher assistants, volunteers, student interns as assigned; evaluated by the CTE Director or his/her designee.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

To exhibit teaching skills which allow for a maximum of learning and a minimum of disciplinary action; maintains professional relationships with other teachers, students, staff, parents; demonstrates commitment to continued professional development.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction:
  • Teaches high school students the principles of automotive technology, including engine repair, diagnostics, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension, safety standards, and emissions testing.
  • Creates and maintains a stimulating physical classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Oversees and manages the inventory, maintenance, and proper use of automotive tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Maintains a safe learning environment by ensuring that students adhere to OSHA and school district safety protocols when operating tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Establishes and implements efficient classroom management procedures.
  • Continually evaluates and records various aspects and indicators of students’ progress.
  • Demonstrates competency in his/her area of training and assignment.
  • Plans lessons effectively; shows evidence of daily and long term planning.
  • Makes provisions for individual differences.
  • Encourages the development of independent work habits.
  • Uses appropriate language for students to model.
  • Uses varied and appropriate instructional techniques to accomplish instructional objectives.
  • Implements the curriculum as prescribed by the school district.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers curriculum that meets state and national standards, aligning with industry practices, and incorporating hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Helps students evaluate their own work.
  • Assesses student progress through performance-based evaluations, written exams, and project work.
  • Provides feedback to students to promote growth and skill mastery.
  • Monitors students’ understanding of the lesson and adjusts teaching when appropriate.
  • Prepares students for industry certification exams (e.g., ASE) and entry-level positions by incorporating soft skills, problem-solving abilities, and real-world applications into instruction.
  • Provides academic and career counseling to students, helping them navigate pathways to higher education or direct entry into the workforce.
  • Encourages a positive atmosphere for all students, especially those with special needs.
  • Communicates clearly, using precise language and acceptable oral expressions.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude.
  • Works to help students acquire a positive self-image.
Professional Relationships:
  • Work with industry partners, advisory committees, and postsecondary institutions to maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends in the automotive field and to provide students with internships, co-op opportunities, and job placements.
  • Encourages a respect for opinions, rights, property, and contribution of others.
  • Communicates and maintains a working relationship with parents.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to students and their performance and records.
  • Is regularly available for extra-help sessions.
  • Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve attitude, behavior, and learning problems.
  • Leaves clear and complete lessons and instructions for substitutes.
  • Participates in the evaluation and revision of curriculum.
Professional Development:
  • Continually evaluates his/her own behavior and performance as a teacher.
  • Participates actively in a professional development program.
  • Explores new teaching techniques as alternatives to better accomplish predetermined instructional objectives, including the use of educational technology.
  • Perform non-instructional duties.
  • Contributes to the schools’ extracurricular programs.
  • Stay current with industry certifications, technology advancements, and pedagogical best practices.

Participate in relevant workshops, training, and school/district professional development activities.
