May 19, 2025 The Barbour County Board of Education invites applicants to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools . Barbour County Schools The school system is committed to effective instructional leadership, responsible fiscal management and a safe and quality learning environment for all students. Barbour County Schools consist of 1 primary school, 1 intermediate school, 1 high school. The school system serves approximately 630 students, employs approximately 120 employees and managed a budget of about $13,900,000 for the 2024-2025 school year. Qualifications The superintendent serves as the chief executive officer of the Board of Education and is responsible for carrying out all Board policies, the duties prescribed for superintendents in Alabama Code §16-9-1 et seq. and requirements and regulations established by the Alabama State Board of Education. The superintendent shall possess an Alabama Superintendent’s Certificate. Candidates shall have at least a master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Five years of successful public educational experience is required. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in school administration and be able to submit proof to the State Superintendent of Education of three years of successful experience as a teacher, principal, supervisor, superintendent, educational administration or instructor in school administration during five years next preceding his appointment. Candidates shall also possess qualities which demonstrate: Successful experience as an administrator with a professional background that includes finance, instruction and personnel leadership; Demonstrated experience in improving student achievement, parental involvement, and staff support; Effective verbal and written communication skills; Superior ethics, personal integrity and proven leadership abilities; Demonstrated skills as a visionary leader, strategic planner and a problem solver; Ability to recruit and retain high quality staff and encourage professional growth and development; Ability to evaluate staff effectively; and Knowledge of research-based curriculum and instructional methods for the K-12 system. Salary The salary range is $120,000 to $140,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
