Permanent, 12 Month Position Nature of Work To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, program, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member. Qualifications and Licensure Master’s degree or higher in School Administration or Educational Leadership Current NC Educator License with Principal Certification Minimum 2 year as Assistant Principal Duties and Responsibilities Leads a comprehensive instructional teaching and learning environment focused on proficiency and growth. Demonstrates knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Leads and facilitates the school improvement cycle focused on improving the instructional program, learning for all and outcomes for students. Participates in professional learning communities, conducts instructional rounds and provides growth producing feedback to staff. Screens, selects, directs and evaluates performance of certified and classified staff members. Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy. Demonstrates ethical guidelines outlined in federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Exercises considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with students, staff, district administration, parents and the community. Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities. Provides opportunities and feedback to facilitate professional growth of the school staff. Understands current literature, trends and developments in education. Demonstrates knowledge of the North Carolina accountability model. Ensures the school program is compatible with the legal, financial, and organizational structure of the school system. Understands the underlying philosophy for the school that matches the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of the students. Demonstrates a positive attitude toward the job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder. Supervises and manages site operations to assure safety and efficiency. Develops master schedules and calendars which maximize the possible achievement of program objectives. Demonstrates skill in providing and /or presenting professional development for staff. Demonstrates knowledge of Board of Education policies and regulations. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the educational program and makes recommendations for improvement. Visualizes and implements change. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Physical Requirements (if applicable) This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and sitting and occasionally requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, and observing general surroundings and activities. Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Special Requirements (if applicable) Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of a school. Thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board and district policies, rules and procedures. Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both oral and written formats. Ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential. Ability to operate standard office equipment and related hardware and software. Ability to operate standard school records software. Ability to learn specialized equipment and software based on district needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students and the general public.
