Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

JOB GOAL
To assist the Superintendent in leading, planning, and coordinating academic programs that improve teaching, learning, and student achievement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate from a regionally accredited senior institution of higher education Current Alabama certification in Educational Leadership or state-recognized equivalent Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience and five (5) years of successful administrative experience; a combination of building-level and district-level administrative experience preferred Experienced in the alignment of written curriculum, instructional procedures and practices, student assessments, supervision, scheduling, and personnel practices Knowledge of school district organization and administration, including school law, school finance, curriculum and instruction, and student services Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills Ability to establish credibility with numerous constituents, effectively handle sensitive personnel issues, and be comfortable and effective working with all levels of an organization Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law, and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Superintendent in advancing the district’s vision, mission, and strategic goals Provides leadership and oversight in planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, instruction, exceptional education services, federal programs, student assessment, and career and technical education Assists the superintendent in the development and execution of the district’s strategic plan, with an emphasis on improving student outcomes across all schools and programs Collaborates with principals and department leaders to ensure instructional programs are aligned with state standards, district priorities, and best practices Serves as a key advisor to the Superintendent on instructional matters, including policy, planning, procedures, and organizational effectiveness Assists the Superintendent in the supervision, evaluation, and professional development of school and district administrators Assists the Superintendent in the delivery of effective communication with parents and community members regarding academic programs and performances Attends board meetings and represents the Superintendent at board meetings and other designated functions. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and policies related to instruction and student services Performs other duties as assigned to support the effective leadership and instructional operations of the district This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
