Full Job Description Job Title-Director of Counseling, Assessment and Accountability Supervisor:
Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Job Goals:
To coordinate and provide leadership, supervision, and support for all school counseling and mental health programs, district-wide school improvement efforts, and state mandated student assessment programs. To assist school and system leaders in identifying and removing barriers to learning for all students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college. Valid Alabama certification in Educational leadership, administration, and/or supervision. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in public education, including experience in assessment, accountability, school improvement, and school counseling. Minimum of two (2) years successful administrator experience (school or district level). Knowledge of the state mandated student assessment and accountability program. Knowledge of the principles and practice of educational guidance, child growth and development theory, educational testing and measurement, counseling, and the administration of guidance services. Knowledge in the use of data to facilitate school improvement efforts. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings and to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups. Proficiency in oral and written communication with the ability to produce and lead presentations through various data sources. Ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to effectively prioritize tasks and assignments. Physical strength, stamina, dexterity, and acuity to perform essential job functions and responsibilities. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Supervises the state-mandated student assessment program. Supervises the training of school administrators and building test coordinators regarding test administration, security procedures, scheduling, and the analysis of assessment data. Supervises the dissemination and collection of all testing materials and supplies. Collaborates with district leaders and professional staff to communicate assessment results. Collaborates with district leaders and professional staff to ensure appropriate assessment of all students, including students with disabilities and ESL students. Coordinates and supervises all school improvement related services and programs. Collects, analyzes, and interprets academic data to identify areas of improvement. Utilizes data to inform the development of school improvement plans. Develops comprehensive reports and presents findings to district leadership, principals, and other stakeholders. Provides schools with the necessary tools, resources, training and support to foster successful continuous improvement efforts. Monitors the progress of school improvement initiatives and provides ongoing support to ensure successful outcomes. Supervises the school counseling program. Evaluates the effectiveness of the school counseling program, and recommends changes for improvement as needed. Supervises the school-based mental health program. Works with the Mental Health Services Coordinator to develop and offer support for students in need of academic, behavioral, or mental health support. Identifies and collaborates with community partners and mental health providers to supplement the services of the school-based mental health program. Serves as a member of the district MTSS team, and provides support for MTSS implementation in all schools. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Represents the system at professional meetings. Plans, manages, and supports all budgets related to assigned departments. Demonstrates the ability to multitask, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks and assignments. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Models and maintains high ethical standards. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member. Efficiently uses time and conserves system resources. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
