Exceptional Education Educational Diagnostician Supervisor :
Exceptional Education Director Job Goals:
To administer and score individual academic achievement, language and IQ tests and produce written reports for Jefferson County students as requested by school, supervisor, or director. To assist the director with planning, monitoring, implementing and evaluating the school system’s special education program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in special education from an accredited institution. Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom experience in special education. Valid Alabama teacher’s certificate in special education. Knowledge and awareness of appropriate techniques of test administration, assessment and diagnostic aspects of evaluating students. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Demonstrated knowledge of special education law and procedures. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, stamina, agility and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Assumes responsibility for scheduling requested assessments. Administers requested assessments or chooses one that is appropriate for each student. Scores and writes results of each assessment. Submits assessment and results to appropriate psychometrist. Assists school, supervisor or psychometrist with interpretation of test results of students. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Provides leadership in developing and promoting the mission and vision of the special education services department. Attends staff meetings and in service/professional development as scheduled to maintain current testing skills/knowledge. Reviews federal and state regulations and other information applicable to the program area(s). Models and maintains high ethical standards. Exhibits interpersonal and collaboration skills needed to work as an effective team member. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws. Participates in training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assigned responsibilities. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Exceptional Education Director. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
