Summary:

Coordinates classroom staff, activities and services in designated center. As Center Supervisor, implements ACHR philosophy and agency-approved curriculum. Contributes planning and presentation of workshops, guides classroom staff towards professional growth, and supervises/evaluates classroom personnel. Performs CLASS observations and provides feedback as scheduled. Contributes to planning and presentations at teacher meetings and workshops, guides classroom staff toward professional growth, and supervises/evaluates classroom personnel, Center/Health personnel, and others as requested. Works as part of the Education team to ensure the smooth functioning and coordination of Education services with the HS/EHS program and ACHR.

Primary duties:

Ensure center staff is aware of and abide by Head Start Performance Standards, DHR Performance Standards, ACHR Policy and Procedures, Education Handbook, and Procedures Manual. Plan with Education Team to ensure that activities and services in the center are developmentally appropriate for pre-school children and in compliance with the agency-approved curriculum, Head Start Performance Standards, and licensing standards. Assist in classrooms as needed. Perform other work related duties as required. Work as a team member in planning and carrying out agency philosophy toward families, staff and training to maintain uniformity of professional standards across centers. Understand and model acceptable attitude toward the Creative Curriculum Approach and Conscious Discipline (socio-emotional skills support) for parents and staff. Monitor classrooms and staff, documenting monitoring results. Make changes in staffing as needed on a daily basis. Keep classroom staff informed of relevant training and education information. Conduct education staff meetings, attending weekly center management and Head Start staff meetings. Collaborate with Family Services Supervisor in assigning children to classrooms in ChildPlus. Collaborate with Assistant Head Start Director, Health Services Coordinator and Family Services Supervisor in maintaining Head Start Performance Standards, and in support of the developmentally appropriate curriculum (Creative Curriculum) and socio-emotion al skills support curriculum (Conscious Discipline). Act as LEA for IEP and exit conferences in the centers. Observe and report any cross-component concerns as it relates to classrooms, children, or center. Attend and participate in parent meetings. Maintaining health and safety guidelines periodically walk building/campus and write work orders as needed. Act as health assistant for incidents/illness in absence of Health Services Clerk or Center/Health Assistant. Supervise and evaluate center classroom staff. Ensure orientation and training for new staff including required agency and education procedures, and required health and safety training within required timeframes. Keep individual files for each staff member at the center and assure that all items are present and up-to- date as required by DHR. Transmit batch of original materials from staff to Personnel Department. Present training sessions for staff and others as requested. Attend training regularly to improve own skills, either during work hours or at other times. Establish classroom rosters with other Center Supervisors for the fall and place new children in classrooms during the school year. Ensure resource materials are available, inventoried, used and checked in and out so there is a trail of accountability. Maintain certification as CLASS assessor; assess assigned classrooms as scheduled, share information with the Assistant Head Start Director and provide teachers with feedback to improve their teaching. Observe, give feedback, and revisit classroom staff to monitor progress. Plan and carry out individual or small group sessions for classroom staff based on assessed needs or individual’s identified interests. Spend time in classrooms as a role model of appropriate teaching, interaction, and curriculum skills. Ensure lesson plans and child assessments are up-to-date for each classroom and that teachers are noting appropriate and sufficient information to be able to pull accurate reports for school readiness. Make additional classroom observations if a teacher needs to change or improve management techniques to support learning for a child with special needs. Assist with planning and presentation of monthly staff training. Evaluate and discuss with Education Team any recommended changes in present education forms and in Education Manual. Assess classrooms on a regular basis using portions of license checklist as well as monitoring form. Transmit to supervisor following procedure. Provide Assistant Head Start Director with brief written quarterly (or as requested) reports on progress of teachers in the classrooms; include information from observations, feedback sessions, other classroom contact, and additional training needed. Check at the beginning of the year and then each month to be sure all required documentation such as lesson plans and emergency plans are posted in each classroom and in the classroom notebook. Document checks and maintain in file. Check children’s folders to assure that teachers are accessing folders and using the information there, including IEPs, and adding information including home visit documentation. Document checks and maintain in file. Participate in recruitment, interview, and selection of potential new teachers, interns, or other center staff members. Initiate and help set up personnel file for new interns or center staff members. Learn and utilize ChildPlus (child and family data program); enter information as needed and pull reports such as enrollment, attendance and screening status as part of monitoring. Maintain written training plan, timelines and goals for each classroom. All other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Family and Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field

Experience:

Five (5) years of child development experience Supervisory experience.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrated computer literacy skills. MS Office applications. Other basic data systems including internet navigation.

Other Skills/Ability:

Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
