QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate and Certification in Educational Administration Minimum of three (3) successful years experience as a classroom teacher Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Current/complete application on file

JOB GOAL

Assist in providing leadership for the total school program to include instruction, support services, personnel, safety, assessment, financial affairs, curriculum, staff development, parent/community relations, student performance, and discipline.

Essential Functions:

General Management Duties and Responsibilities Works and cooperates with principal and central office personnel in the full range of administrative responsibilities. Assumes principal’s responsibilities in absence of principal. Interprets and enforces board policies and administrative directives. Plans and sets goals for each year. Schedules classes and assigns students and teachers to classrooms. Encourages staff cooperation, morale, and mutual respect. Maintains order and discipline to ensure the safety of students. Monitors general school operations, including hallways, toilets, auditoriums, etc. Maintains budget as appropriate. Delegates duties and responsibilities effectively. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information. Handles other responsibilities as assigned by the principal. Assumes Leadership in Coordinating and Supervising Curriculum Coordinates and monitors curriculum for the school. Monitors curriculum for consistency using system standards maps and state curriculum guide. Assists teachers in planning, evaluating, and modifying the instructional program to meet the needs of the students. Monitors staff to determine the extent to which curriculum goals and objectives are being met. Participates Effectively in the Management of Instructional Personnel Participates in personnel selections and changes through interviews and recommendations. Observes classroom instruction and makes recommendations for improvement. Plans professional development for staff by motivating and encouraging professional development. Coordinates grade/departmental meetings. Coordinates peer observations. Develops and implements the local in-service programs. Attends and conducts regular faculty meetings as required. Coordinates inter-school and intra-school visitations. Checks teachers’ lesson plans, grade books, report cards, etc. Provides teachers with uniform procedures for keeping and reporting attendance. Maintains substitute teacher file. Assists substitute teachers in assignments for classes. Schedules and attends, as needed, parent-teacher conferences. Coordinates kindergarten registration. Organizes and monitors teacher bus duties. Compiles lists of students with failures by grade. Coordinates the development of discipline for the school. Participates Effectively in the Management of Support Personnel Recommends personnel changes to principal. Interviews support personnel. Supervises instructional assistants. Supervises and evaluates custodian. Posts and monitors sign-in sheet for bus drivers. Counsels with bus drivers in safety, evacuation, etc. Supervises loading and unloading of buses and car riders. Supervises transportation of career technical education students. Coordinates substitute bus drivers. Contacts bus supervisor for severe problems. Prepares bus drivers’ evaluation forms. Attends bus drivers’ meetings. Provides activities to improve morale for support personnel. Participates Effectively in the Management of Pupil Personnel Counsels with students regarding academic decisions, student-teacher relationships, personal problems, and other situations as needed. Disciplines students referred to office. Refers students for counseling/guidance services. Makes phone calls to parents about absent students. Notifies parents or medical authorities about children who are sick or injured. Checks students in or out. Monitors and conferences with students with excessive absences or tardiness. Handles parental conferences effectively. Supervises detention. Insures disciplinary actions are consistent with due process procedures. Works with juvenile authorities on major disciplinary problems which require court petitions. Monitors the orderly transition of students from grade to grade and school to school. Informs new students as to the appropriate bus to ride. Handles locker assignments. Supervises parking. Makes health inspections of children and notifies parents of infections. Coordinates and Supervises School Activities and Services Handles field trip requests. Coordinates extra-curricular activities/programs of the school. Schedules drivers and supervises trips for extra-curricular activities. Monitors clean-up of buses after field trips, etc. Maintains file of all bus routes. Rides buses on routes when necessary. Coordinates daily fueling of buses. Reports bus maintenance problems each morning to the transportation shop. Issues oil and other supplies and materials to bus drivers. Completes and files bus inspections. Monitors emergency drills for school buses. Attends school related functions. Prepares student handbook. Coordinates and supervises Child Nutrition Program. Completes and Files Records and Reports as Assigned Prepares reports on a timely basis, e.g., transportation, accreditation, textbooks, attendance, etc. Coordinates, supervises, and maintains records for assigned programs and activities. Coordinates and maintains records of referrals relating to attendance, R t I, 504 and Special Education. Maintains discipline records and suspension forms for annual report. Maintains and safeguards academic student records. Maintains accurate records for all fixed assets. Handles lunch applications and maintains appropriate records. Maintains payroll records for teachers. Maintains payroll records for support personnel. Prepares bus driver payroll. Participates in Activities to Assist in Plant Management Prepares facilities for assemblies and special programs. Monitors buildings and campus. Prepares building maintenance request form. Makes recommendations for improving school grounds, and maintenance of buildings. Handles other building duties, e.g., opening, closing, securing, etc. Maintains, requests, issues, and supervises janitorial supplies. Checks fire extinguishers, safety devices, coolers, and freezers as appropriate. Responds to alarm system at all times of the night. Supervises fire, tornado drills, and other emergency situations. Distributes and collects Teacher Editions and other board materials, such as textbooks, etc. Maintains school store – orders supplies, keeps records, etc. Purchases and picks up materials not provided by the central office. Transports mail to and from the post office and central office. Transports bank deposits to the bank. Checks bulletin boards – to be changed at regular intervals. Participates Effectively in Community and Public Relations Communicates with parents and others in community. Attends civic and community gatherings as a school representative. Works with community improvement committees. Reports school activities for media coverage through central office Community Relations person. Organizes and supervises parent volunteer program. Coordinates and communicates student activities for local groups and community agencies. Provides for recognition of student achievement. Posts notices and makes announcements concerning school activities. Attends local and county PTA meetings. Encourages parent-staff communications by keeping parents informed of school activities. Exhibits Personal and Professional Qualities of an Educational Leader Attends professional meetings. Keeps abreast of current trends through periodicals and seminar/workshop attendance. Participates in professional organizations by attending relevant meetings. Dresses as a professional employee and as a role model for teachers and pupils. Practices self-control. Demonstrates tact and poise. Speaks in language that is free of grammatical errors or idiomatic expressions. Writes fluently in complete sentences and thoughts. Writes fluently without misspelled words or grammatical errors. Demonstrates loyalty and support for the principal. Demonstrates loyalty and support for the Talladega County Board of Education. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

EVALUATION

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

11 months Salary based on current salary schedule
