During the summer, the position is around 40 hours a week. During the school year, this position is around 20 hours per week. The hours are flexible and can work around the Student Assistant’s class schedule. The Student Assistant will have the opportunity to propose their own work schedule for days and hours that work best for them as long as they fall between Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm.
Job Summary:
The Instructional Technology Student Assistant supports the UA Online Accessibility team. Reviews online course materials to ensure that they are accessible to students with disabilities. Makes interactives accessible. Checks the accessibility of 3rd party resources such as web tools and programs. Earns federal certificates in authoring accessible documents from the Department of Homeland Security.
Additional Department Summary:
Online courses created by the University of Alabama Online Instructional Design team are rigorously checked to verify that course materials are accessible to students with disabilities. The Student Assistant will join the team that checks and makes the University of Alabama Online’s courses accessible according to the legal requirements for all online courses (Section 504, Section 508 and
WCAG 2.1 AA
standards: documents, presentations, images/infographics, and videos).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current University of Alabama student. No experience is necessary for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Drive. Experience implementing digital accessibility.
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
