Job Description
In conjunction with the LEA Supervisor, the Assistant LEA Supervisor provides leadership to districts in IDEA , Federal and State Programs, Preschool Education, Special Education, and the oversight of required data and student records.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education, special education, or in a related field of special services from an accredited college or university; specialization / endorsement in special education content areas are preferred. Administrator licensure in the state of Arkansas required; Prefer a Special Education Administrator licensure in the state of Arkansas or willing to obtain. Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching/working with students with disabilities or similar employment duties. Experience as an assistant director or district-level director or similar employment duties preferred.

Performance Responsibilities:

Supervise PBSD district special education staff in conjunction with the LEA Supervisor and building principals. Serve as a consultant to all special education staff and district administration regarding the IEP process, documentation, meetings, services, resources, and attending administration team meetings, as needed and requested. Develop, implement and provide coordination of budgets and programs related to special education in conjunction with the LEA Supervisor. Make recommendations at the district level for program planning, staffing levels and budgeting of special education needs. Coordinate professional development opportunities and training needs for special education staff. Evaluate staff in conjunction with the LEA Supervisor. Consult and collaborate with all community agencies that provide services to students with disabilities. Provide oversight for Extended School Year services. Serve on district, community, regional, and state level committees, as appropriate. Advise school district personnel on consideration and inclusion of assistive technology on the individual educational plan (IEP). Provide assistive technology coordination to support school personnel in integrating assistive technology. Maintain knowledge of and implement services in accordance with IDEA requirements. Coordinate the selection, acquisition, adaptation, and maintain inventory of AT devices. This includes identifying funding sources and completing funding applications.
Develop and maintain a working relationship with businesses, agencies and organizations such as Vocational Rehabilitation which provides post-secondary services for students with disabilities. Develop and maintain a Transition Steering Committee composed of teachers, parents, and representatives from outside agencies. Review and evaluate IEPs in each district for compliance with the requirements of the Arkansas Department of Education.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. or more.
