Position Summary:

An academic advisor in the ROAR First-Year Advising Center is responsible for helping students through academic and career advising, registration, degree auditing, new student onboarding programs, and retention initiatives. Advisors also serve in the Academic Advising Council and participate in case management supports for targeted populations. This position reports to the Director of First-Year Advising.

Summary of Job Duties:
  • Serve as a student advocate. Work closely with students who are first-year, transfer, athletes, conditional admits, and international.
  • Assist students with major and course selection while providing career development and long-term planning assistance.
  • Maintain records of student engagement, degree progression, and communication.
  • Promote retention through innovative programming and referrals.
  • Review academic standing of students for interventions and referrals. Connect students with academic supports, including ASC, Writing Center, Career Services, TRIO, Disability Services, and others.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation, Student Success and Retention.
