Assistant Director of Academic Services 4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 1000 Longfellow Bl, Lakeland, FL 33801 JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Director of Academic Services supports the Director in providing leadership and operational oversight for Academic Services, including the Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE), Academic & Auxiliary Services (ADA), and the Testing Center. This role supports the Director in strategic planning, program development, staff supervision, and vision to enhance student success initiatives. The Assistant Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to ensure the effective delivery of academic support services while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and accessibility regulations.

N/A ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Departmental Oversight & Leadership:
Assist the Director in strategic planning and policy development. Oversee day-to-day departmental functions, ensuring smooth operations and service delivery in ACE, ADA, and the Testing Center. Supervise GAs and student employees across all departmental functions. Act as the Director’s representative when needed or in their absence. Partner with the Center for Student Success, academic departments, faculty, and other campus units to support student success initiatives. Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff seeking guidance on academic support and accessibility services.
Tutoring & Academic Support :
Manage and oversee the Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) tutoring program, including peer tutor recruitment and training. Develop and maintain student tutor and office assistant schedules. Monitor tutor performance through observations, student feedback, and evaluations. Facilitate staff meetings to discuss challenges, share strategies, and improve services. Implement best practices in tutoring and academic enrichment services. Become an expert user of tutor scheduling software (CloudTrac) for monitoring and data tracking purposes. Provide student success coaching to students on academic probation, as assigned. Evaluate and enhance tutoring policies, procedures, and effectiveness.
Accommodations & Accessibility:
Ensure compliance with ADA and institutional policies for student accommodations. Assist with the accommodation request process, including documentation review and coordination with faculty. Collaborate with campus partners to enhance institutional accessibility initiatives. Assist the Director during peak seasons with student accommodation meetings. Maintain ADA records in Maxient (online accessibility documentation)
Testing Center Administration:
Oversee test proctoring, exam security, and exam scheduling. Oversee Testing Center Student Workers and Graduate Assistants. Assist with student worker evaluations and observations. Ensure compliance with CLEP and external testing regulations.
Assessment & Data Management:
Collect, analyze, and report data on student engagement and service effectiveness. Coordinate outreach efforts for at-risk students through communication with all involved stakeholders to include students, staff and faculty. Assist in developing assessment tools to measure program effectiveness.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist with resource allocation and departmental growth strategies. Stay informed on national trends and developments in academic support, accessibility, and student success. Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and training related to higher education services. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
All remaining duties are considered “nonessential” within the context of the ADA, which means that the function could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position. Alternatively, the manager could try to provide a reasonable accommodation so that the disabled individual could perform the function.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s in education, social work or a related field
Preferred Education:
Master’s in education, social work or a related field
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS N/A EXPERIENCE
Required:
Minimum 3 years of demonstrated professional experience in academic support services, including serving students with ADA accommodations, testing/assessment, classroom teaching, and/or tutoring as well as a demonstrated ability to evaluate disability documentation and determine reasonable academic accommodations in accordance with applicable laws and best practices.
Preferred:
5 + years of progressively responsible experience, including working in a supervisory capacity in academic support, student accessibility services, and testing center management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
The successful candidate must be able to (1) Relate to and work with students individually and/or in small groups, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. (2) Promote positive student, faculty and staff relations. (3) Use basic computer software programs including Google Suite. (4) Possess familiarity with ADA, Section 504 and other laws related to student accommodations and accessibility,
