Principal at The Villages Charter School Autism Center 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars 350 Tatonka Terrace, The Villages, FL 32162 The Villages Charter School’s Autism Center will be dedicated to meeting the educational needs of students on the autism spectrum. The center will support students’ academic, social, and emotional development through a combination of individualized instruction, specialized programs, and targeted therapies provided by our highly trained staff. Students at the Autism Center will receive the therapy they need in a nurturing educational environment focused on individualized learning and growth. The Villages Charter School Autism Center, LLC (TVCS AC) is a subsidiary of The Villages Charter School, Inc. which operates by a charter agreement approved by the Sumter County Board of Education and the Florida State Department of Education. Unlike traditional county schools, our enrollment criteria is based upon the place of employment of one of the parents/guardians rather than the geographic address of their home. Both The Villages Charter School (“VCS”) and The Villages Charter School Autism Center, LLC (TVCS AC) are Charter in the Workplace schools (see also School of Choice).
DESCRIPTION
The Villages Charter School Autism Center is seeking a school leader with the passion and vision to create and sustain an exemplary school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This position will be at the Autism Center on the Buffalo Ridge Campus. Applicants must complete The Villages Charter School online application. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Principal is responsible for working with the Board of Directors to set the strategic direction for the school and providing the leadership to successfully develop and maintain a successful school focused on the academic, social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral growth and development of students. The Principal is responsible for overseeing a team of teachers, behavioral support staff, and administrative staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned: Develop and implement school policies Ensure high-level, developmentally appropriate behavioral and instructional strategies are implemented Participate in and promote the professional development of team members Determine and operate the school budget Oversee the development of curriculum for all school programming and oversee the implementation of adopted curriculum Ensure the safety of students and team members Work directly with staff to support students who exhibit challenging behaviors, which may range from mild to extreme Work with staff to ensure skill acquisition programs are implemented in the areas of academics and functional/life skills Perform functional behavior assessments (FBA) for individual students Train staff in the implementation of interventions and programming Ensure implementation of data collection strategies to monitor student response to intervention Hiring and onboarding new employees Participate in problem-solving team meetings and tasks Interact with and support parents, including relevant training Support and direct office personnel Coordinate with other schools and outside providers for intake and inclusion opportunities Be familiar with federal and state regulations/laws that govern Exceptional Student Education (ESE) or special education Work with human resources to ensure teacher/staff certification is accurate for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) instruction, ESE, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Work cooperatively with the Sumter County School District to ensure adherence to special education compliance, information exchange, coordination of efforts, and general support for decision-making Oversee the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of K-12 curricula for ASD students Oversee all professional development activities for staff Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree or higher Strong leadership and interpersonal skills Ability to train, coach, and motivate Creative and critical thinker who can adjust programming and develop interventions for a diverse student population Must hold or be eligible for certification by the State of Florida in Educational Leadership or Principal certification At least three years of school administration experience At least five years of experience working with students with moderate to severe autism or related disabilities preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is moderate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be full time for 260 days. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the TVCS AC policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by The Villages Charter School Director of Education and The Villages Charter School Autism Center Board.
