Director of Program for Exceptional Children Crawford County School District 190 E Crusselle St, Roberta, GA 31078 JOB SUMMARY The Director of Special Education is responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and oversight of Special Education programs and services within the Crawford County School District. This leadership role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant laws. The Director collaborates with administrators, educators, specialists, and families to promote inclusive practices, improve student outcomes, and provide high-quality educational experiences for students with disabilities. The role involves supervising special education staff, managing budgets, and leading professional development initiatives to support the effective delivery of services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure that schools and district follow all state and federal regulations relative to the identification, placement, and program development for Special Education students; Provide system-wide leadership for assuming the development of effective and appropriate Special Education programs; Provide leadership and system representation in matters relating to due process procedural safeguards; Develop system procedures for identification, evaluation and placement of students with Special Education needs; Chair or participate in staffing which may result in IEP recommendations requiring additional financial commitments from the school district or which may have legal ramifications; Represent the school district in dealing with outside agencies and organizations concerned with Special Education; Facilitate communication and mediation with parents and advocates regarding the delivery of Special Education services; Coordinate the development and maintenance of student Special Education files; Develop and coordinate development of various data reports requested by both State and Federal Agencies; Assist others in the preparation and review of reports generated for State Funding of Special Education programs; Coordinate staff development sessions for general and Special Education personnel; Coordinate the development of information required by the transportation department in arranging specialized transportation; Approve Special Education requests for supplies, materials, and equipment; and Coordinate instructional program for Special Education services. With principals assume leadership for recruiting, hiring, and evaluating Special Education teachers (Special Education personnel should not be hired, transferred, or terminated without approval of the Director of Special Education.); Conduct Focus Walks and provide feedback to teachers and administrators Work with the Superintendent and CFO to develop a budget for the Department of Exceptional Students Develop and maintain IDEA flow through grant Coordinate and supervise Special Needs Pre-K Program in collaboration with Crawford County Head Start Program Develop and implement Board policies relating to special needs students Assist with Special Education portion of CLIP Supervise related services providers Coordinate services with Elam Alexander, Georgia Academy for the Blind, and Atlanta Areas School for the Deaf; Supervise and coordinate Georgia Alternate Assessment Supervise FTE data collection as it relates to Special Education; Perform any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certification at Master’s level (L-5) or higher Leadership Degree required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership, organization, planning, communication, administrative budget and experience in managing multiple complex systems projects; prior supervisory or leadership experience
NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB
Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb, and lift items of approximately 10 pounds throughout the workday
