Full Job Description BIA Charter School Media Specialist Job Description Purpose:

The Media Specialist will work as a collaborator, change agent, and leader to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The Media Specialist will empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. The ideal person for this position will instill a love of reading and learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information, collaborate with teachers to design and implement instruction, and assess student learning. This position reports to the Associate Head of School (6-8).

Key Responsibilities:

Effective Management Creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive Serves as an essential member of the instructional and leadership teams to bring an ongoing commitment to the school’s curriculum Stays current on best practices in the integration of technology with the curriculum. Advocates for the school library program to include communication to stakeholders Works with teachers and administrators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources Provides leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats Evaluates, promotes, and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning Works to define the school-based policies of the school library program and to guide and direct all activities related to it Assists students in becoming critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information Develops the school library program vision and mission and implements measurable goals and objectives Arranges for flexible scheduling of the school library media center to provide student access to staff and resources at the point of need Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School Personal and Professional Growth Participate in all school-sponsored professional development programs Reflect on teaching practices and seeking appropriate help and support from the leadership team and colleagues Work with colleagues in a Professional Learning Community to improve student achievement by sharing assessment data and planning Support paraprofessionals, practicum students, and any other team members in their professional growth especially with regards to supporting all members of the team to deliver high-quality instruction through Blended learning and Project Based Learning. Mentor new or established teachers as needed Work with Family Stakeholders Proactively communicate with and seek input from family and/or guardians Involve community stakeholders in learning experiences for students, when appropriate Other Attend designated school functions outside of school hours Attend and participate in all staff, committee, and grade level meetings Abide by all state and federal mandates Utilize technology platforms and resources adopted by Brookhaven Innovation Academy Duties as assigned by

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent major from an accredited university Have a demonstrated ability to develop lesson plans, implement instructional strategies and ensure students at all ability levels to achieve learning goals A minimum of three years teaching experience Hold or be eligible for GA Professional Standards Commission Certification in S5
