II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Assists the Superintendent and, as designated by the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, in planning, developing, and maintaining primary school facilities and educational programs which reflect optimum use of local, state, and federal funds.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
•Master’s degree. Type A Louisiana teaching certificate. Certification as Principal or Supervisor of Instruction.
EXPERIENCE
•Seven years of successful experience as a professional educator, three of which must have been within the last five in accordance with Louisiana State Department of Education certification requirements.

•Additional requirements as the Board may establish.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates formulation of philosophy and objectives for instructional services. Guides development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula services. Keeps informed of developments in curricula and instruction. Guides, develops, implements, and evaluates pre-service and in-service training programs for professional personnel. Works with principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies. Assists in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curricula and instruction at the elementary level. Communicates the approved curricula to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials. Assists in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects or new construction. Develops grade-level and departmental criteria which provide horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the district’s instructional program. Coordinates all phases of supervision of personnel working in grades
K-4, K-5.
Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings. Consults, advises, interprets, clarifies, reports and recommends needs and status respectively, of the district’s programs in the elementary area. Assesses and makes recommendations on types of programs and planning needed in elementary schools. Supervises activities of Chapter I Supervisor, Head Start Coordinator, and Project Read/504 Coordinator, relative to compliance requirements and their implementation throughout the system. Serves as liaison between the Parish and regional accreditation agencies. Reviews annual elementary and state reports, ensures accuracy of content. Develops and implements innovative programs which reflect the educational goals of the Ascension Parish School System. Confers with staff members and departments in providing available information for development of programs. Collects data and prepares required reports. Keeps informed of the latest research trends and developments in areas of responsibility. Coordinates the selection of instructional material. Assumes responsibility in development of curriculum for any courses in the assigned area of responsibility. Coordinates the preparation of the evaluation instruments in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, statutory requirements and regulations of duly authorized administrative agencies. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system. Supervisors and Directors shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports: Instructional Components Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions Collaborate with those providing and overseeing school-based instruction as well as professionals providing ancillary services Review, draft, study, recommend, and implement policies, curriculum, and plans to improve the quality of instruction Conduct school/class walk throughs Supervision Supervision of Principals, Assistant Principals, and others reporting to employee for whose supervision employee is responsible Complete and/or assist in the preparation/implementation of employee observations, evaluations, IAPs, and other associated tasks and monitoring Non-instructional Components Attend meetings generally associated with the instruction of students Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings Attend training sessions Attend job fairs and related events Attend IEP meetings Attend Central Office and Department meetings Attend back-to-school and open-house events Attend graduation Interview, employ, and complete necessary hires Attend PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request Participate in the preparation of necessary disciplinary documents and corresponding disciplinary process Performs such duties or responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
