Department Administrator II Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Location:

New Orleans, LA Summary The Department Administrator II plays a key leadership role in managing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the department. This position establishes and maintains procedures to ensure efficient programmatic operations, financial management, and data oversight. This position oversees special projects and assignments as directed by the Department Chair. Working closely with the Department Chair and other university offices, this position implements policies, prepares financial reports and reconciliations, supports faculty and students, and coordinates programmatic activities to ensure the department operates effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with School of Science and Engineering (SSE) standards. A broad understanding of university operations and the ability to recognize and navigate the interconnections among departmental stakeholders is essential. The Department Administrator II manages and retains institutional and program-related regulatory, accreditation, and credentialing records. This position ensures compliance with program standards and collaborates with program leadership to prepare annual and special reports for the School, University, and external regulatory and accreditation bodies. Good judgment, discretion, and trustworthiness are critical attributes for this position. Additionally, this position oversees a departmental funding portfolio of approximately $7+ million. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities with competing deadlines, coupled with the motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for tasks.
  • Proven expertise in budget management and a solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability respond diplomatically, professionally, and courteously to individuals at all levels of the university, including students.
  • Proficiency with word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Outstanding planning and implementation skills, with attention to detail and a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including varied personalities, educational levels, and cultural perspectives.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and discretion in handling financial data, personnel files, and other sensitive information.
  • Committed to accessibility principles (UDL) and effective communication across diverse audiences using modern collaboration platforms (e.g., Teams, Zoom). Required Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years of directly related work experience. OR
  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 9 years of directly related experience. Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage a variety of activities with competing deadlines.
  • Strong motivation, initiative, and decision-making skills.
  • Diplomacy and professionalism when working with undergraduate students and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Tulane-specific software and systems, including EBS (HCM, TAMS, E-IT), Cognos, BANNER, CONCUR, SciQuest, CourseLeaf, Interfolio, Kronos, CIMS, Canvas, CLSS, Slate, and the Library Research System.
  • Supervisory experience with a track record of effective team leadership and management.

This position is classified as “exempt, salaried” and is assigned to pay grade 26.
