POSITION

Associate Principal for College and Career Technical Education (CCTE)

JOB GOAL

To provide leadership and coordination among the career and technical education pathways at Barnstable High School while assisting the principal in establishing an environment where all students can learn, where employee satisfaction is at a high level, and where public confidence in the school is strong.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Massachusetts Licensure Principal/Assistant Principal, appropriate to building assignment; 2. Massachusetts Licensure as Supervisor/Director in an academic field, preferred; Massachusetts academic teaching license required. 3. Master’s Degree preferred; 4. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher or student support personnel, appropriate to building assignment; 5. SEI Endorsement required; 6. Demonstrated belief that each student can and will perform up to high standards of achievement and behavior; 7. Ability to effectively interpret student/school data and identify areas of strength, need, and growth; 8. Demonstrated ability for strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines; 9. Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures; 10. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with professional colleagues, staff, students, and parents.

REPORTS TO

Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and goals of Barnstable Public Schools; 2. Works in a leadership role with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and parents/guardians; 3. Works collaboratively with the District’s Grants Manager to write and monitor CTE grants including but not limited to Perkins, Innovation Pathway, PLTW, Chapter 74 and other relevant grants that promote the development and implementation of college and career technical education pathways; 4. Works collaboratively with the District’s Grants Manager to fulfill all grant requirements: budgeting, purchasing, and relevant reporting; 5. Organizes all college and career pathway advisory boards and chairs required meetings; 6. Serves as the school’s liaison to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) around CCTE programs; 7. Collaborates with Department Heads and Curriculum Coordinators on the implementation of existing and the development of new CCTE programs; Approved 6/4/25 8. Collaborates with data personnel to accurately report students in CCTE programs to DESE with respect to the curricular, instructional, and operational needs of the programs; 9. Works collaboratively with department heads, curriculum coordinators, and school counseling to promote CCTE programs with students and families; 10. Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and district; 11. Works directly with students in areas of attendance, conduct, and behavioral expectations, administering discipline and restorative practices in accordance with the Student Handbook; 12. Ensures that the school reflects a climate of being an orderly, purposeful, active, and engaging place of learning and interpersonal caring; 13. Ensures school wide compliance with all safety and security protocols, policies and requirements, including safety drills, visitor management system, CORI and fingerprinting requirements and school entry and exit systems; 14. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters; 15. Supports the communication, professional development, and supervision of the faculty and staff; 16. Observes and evaluates instruction and provides constructive feedback on performance in accordance with the educator evaluation system with a particular focus on CCTE pathways; 17. Assists with faculty and other meetings; 18. Provides direct supervision of school sponsored activities; 19. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS

1. As assigned, promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff through effective partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and district, with a particular focus on CCTE pathways. 2. As assigned, develops/monitors and adjusts the school’s master schedule – including all special education, lunch, extracurricular activities, student schedules, half day schedules, and shared space usages throughout the school day and after school, with a particular focus on CCTE pathways. 3. As assigned, develops and executes effective plans, procedures, routines, and operational systems to address a full range of safety, health, and emotional and social needs of students, with a particular focus on CCTE pathways. 4. As assigned, plans and leads well-run and engaging meetings that have clear purpose, focus on matters of consequence, and engage participants in a thoughtful and productive series of conversations and deliberations about important school matters, with a particular focus on CCTE pathways. 5. Implements school-wide routines, policies, and systems that (a) support a safe and supportive school environment for all students, (b) create opportunities for students to take an active role in preventing behaviors that interfere with learning, allowing all students to grow from these experiences, with a particular focus on CCTE pathways. 6. Ensures practices that enable staff members and students to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment in which students’ backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected. 7. Responds and proactively reaches out to families when either academic or non-academic concerns arise in a timely and effective manner, and supports all educators to do the same. 8. Other duties assigned by the building principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical office conditions: sitting, bending, stooping, filing, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds of office supplies/files. Close vision at or correctable to normal range.
