Job Description
Elms College, located in Chicopee, MA, seeks an assistant/associate professor in principal leadership who demonstrates scholarly excellence in educational and practitioner leadership working in urban school districts to increase the diversity of high-quality administrators in urban districts. This position has a faculty-line appointment in the Education Division, with reporting lines to both the Center for Equity in Urban Education and the Education Division. This is a twelve-month full-time tenure-track faculty position with responsibilities of coordinating /overseeing the Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8, and 5-12 licensure pathway programs. This position will begin July 1, 2025. Duties & Responsibilities Collaborate as a team member within the Center for Equity in Urban Education (CEUE) and the Education Division to support and advance CEUE’s programmatic pathways while upholding the missions of CEUE, the Education Division, and Elms College. Actively participate in the Center for Equity in Urban Education and Education Division meetings, programs, recruitment, and professional learning events. Coordinate and administer the Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8, and 5-12 licensure pathway programs, including the recruitment and retention of a diverse population of students. Lead in reviewing and developing curriculum, syllabi, and program assessment with oversight and approval of the Education Division Chair. Develop and teach graduate courses in the Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8, 5-12 licensure pathway programs, and other Education division courses, as needed. Actively participate in the college’s urban education initiatives to increase the number and diversity of high-quality administrators in urban schools. Supervise students in site-based practicums for the Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8, and 5-12 licensure pathway programs. Enhance and expand collaboration with school district and community partners to advance the Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8, and 5-12 licensure pathway programs. Serve as an academic advisor for identified CEUE Adhere to college policies and procedures as indicated in the faculty handbook, other college-wide documents, and guidelines and directives from the Education Division and the CEUE. Required Qualifications Earned doctorate (Ed.
D. or D.) in education or related field strongly preferred . Licensure as Principal/Assistant Principal, PK-8; 5-12; PreK-6; 5-8; 9-12 and/or Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent (levels: all). Demonstrated teaching excellence at the graduate level preferred . Demonstrated experience leading in a PreK-12 school Demonstrated commitment to antiracist teaching, equity, and the growth and success of all students and staff strongly preferred . Demonstrated record of program development and ability to provide program Knowledge of Massachusetts Standards of Effective Administrative Leadership and the Performance Assessment for Leaders (PAL). Knowledge of relevant accreditation standards, such as Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) and National Educational Leaders Preparation. (NELP) preferred . Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Proficiency in using new technologies in the classroom, with experience in online and/or hybrid teaching and academic advising.
