Job Description:

Plan, organize, supervise, coordinate, and participate in providing athletic training services for all athletic teams. Includes athletic training clinic staffing, practice and game coverage for intercollegiate athletic teams, and assistance for coaches in programming for weight training, conditioning, and nutrition. Provide periodic analysis and assessment of services and recommendations for improvement
Provide direct athletic health care services to designated varsity student athletes (and club sport athletes when appropriate). Including assessment of athletic-related injuries/conditions; establishing plan of care; providing rehabilitation; assisting with preventive treatment for future encounters; making referrals to Dexter Health Services, Team Physicians, and Dexter Counseling Services. Designated as Healthcare Administrator.
Assist students with health care needs and concerns by providing resources, guidance, and referral to appropriate health care providers.
Supervise and conduct the direct coverage of athletic training services during athletic practices and contests to assigned teams, including traveling when designated
Coordinate, supervise and participate in conducting the athletic health screenings for all student athletes in cooperation with Dexter Health Services
Develop, communicate, and implement policies and procedures for the effective operation of the athletic training facilities and services
Carry out ongoing injury prevention program through safety checks and formal and informal instruction of athletes in injury prevention techniques
Assist in conducting athletic injury prevention strategies by developing and/or collaborating on the physical and mental training and conditioning programs offered by the Athletics department
Maintain the appropriate level of confidentiality regarding student-athletes’ medical, insurance, and academic records
Communicate effectively with coaches, athletes, students, staff, faculty, parents, and others as necessary regarding the participation status of student athletes
Perform required record keeping for designated students, including injury, treatment, and progress notes
Manage athletic insurance claims process by filing claims, maintaining records, and communicating with parents, students, providers, and third party payers
Hire, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assistant athletic trainers, participating in their orientation and ongoing professional development
Manage the budget for the athletic training service area. Plan and implement departmental expenditures, including service and repairs of equipment
Maintain procedures for the general maintenance of the athletic training clinic facilities in consultation with the professional staff and appropriate building maintenance personnel. Oversee a process to control access to the athletic training clinic
Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the athletic training facilities and equipment
Schedule on-site visits by the team physician to examine student-athletes with athletic related injuries. Coordinate, transport, and oversee patient referrals in consultation with team physician
May be asked to participate in a variety of academic and athletic efforts including committee assignments
Keep up-to-date on current developments in athletic training methods and technology

Requirements:

Masters degree in athletic training or related field
Athletic Training
Current instructor certification in first aid and CPR
Current credential in BOC, Inc.,; current credential in emergency cardiac care
Athletic Trainer Licensure (or eligible) by Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Board of Registration in Allied Health
Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills and/or demonstrated experience in a managerial capacity. Organizational and leadership skills required.
Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills related to athletic training and sports injuries
Able to manage medical emergencies and instruct others to assist
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and counseling skills
Demonstrable skills in interacting effectively with students, staff, faculty, physicians, parents, and others
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication
Will require a non-traditional schedule to meet the needs of students and teams, including evening and weekend events throughout the academic year
