Position Information Title AY25-26 Graduate Assistant – Writing Studio
Position Description The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer. Department Summary
The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) is the largest hub of student academic support services at Bridgewater State University. The AAC provides Academic Advising for specific populations and Learning Assistance support to undergraduate students. The AAC also houses Student Accessibility Services and Testing Services. Within Learning Assistance there are six main areas: Academic Coaching, Accounting and Finance Lab, Math Services, Tutoring Central, Tutoring for Multilingual Students, and the Writing Studio. All areas within the AAC dedicate each day to student success and retention, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Duties/Responsibilities Administrative Coordination and Supervision:

Create and manage consultants’ schedules and enter them into Accudemia, our online appointment software
Oversee administrative tasks such as replenishing documents, handouts, and other resources
Facilitate hiring process by assisting with applications, interviews, and training
Participate in ENGL 204, the required tutor-preparation course (M 3:15 – 4:15), and attend post-204 meeting with Writing Studio Director and consultant mentors

Client Support and Consultation Management:

Support undergraduate consultants with Accudemia and Zoom usage
Track consultant attendance and immediately call problems to Writing Studio Director’s attention
Mentor consultants to deliver exceptional service, e.g., help them refine their tutoring effectiveness and remind them to refer students to other relevant service areas
Maintain clear and prompt communication with Writing Studio and Learning Assistance Directors
Perform classroom visits to encourage student utilization of services

Conducting Effective Writing Consultations:

Assist students with Accudemia appointments
Implement Writing Studio philosophy to foster student engagement and growth mindset
Provide exemplary service with an equity and inclusion focus while acknowledging and addressing students’ specific needs Preferred Qualifications Skills Needed/Preferred
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and must be accepted to a graduate program at Bridgewater State University. Candidates must have a strong interest in student development, an ability to work well with others, and, preferably, experience with tutoring and/or counseling. Ability to work with diverse populations (e.g., students with learning disabilities and other disabilities, students of color, multilingual students, non-binary and transgender students, and non-traditional students) is required. Experience and the capacity to initiate work independently without direct supervision are preferred.
