About UP Education Network UP Education Network operates five schools in Boston and Lawrence, MA. We serve over 2,600 elementary and middle school students. UP is invited by local school districts to restart chronically underperforming district schools as UP Academies. Each UP Academy s the same mission: to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential. Role The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction reports to UP Academy’s Principal and serves on UP Academy’s Leadership Team. The Dean is responsible for the management and development of teachers within his/her portfolio. S/he plans professional development, leads the smaller team’s efforts to create a positive, structured, consistent, caring, and disciplined school culture, and takes responsibility for the academic program in place within his/her content areas and/or grade levels. Specific Responsibilities Teacher Development and Management
Oversee the growth and development of a cohort of teachers within particular subject areas or grade levels
Provide formal and informal feedback on observations, lesson plan review, curriculum design, and more
Team Management and Leadership
Develop, design, implement and participate in an annual four-week staff orientation and training
Develop and support a culture of reflective practice among teachers
Plan and support facilitation of professional development
Develop positive interpersonal relationships among staff members
Provide consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations for students
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
Curriculum and Assessment Design
Develop, implement, and revise curriculum maps
Facilitate weekly meetings to analyze student work, review information regarding classroom assessments, and plan for instruction
Ensure student mastery of state, city, and school academic and behavioral standards;
Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards;
Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices;
Qualifications
A strong belief in UP Education Network’s core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor
Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree is preferred
Three years teaching experience required, 2+ years of school leadership experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated success in leading in a diverse environment
A valid Massachusetts Teaching License as a Principal/Assistant Principal in the appropriate grade level
Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
