POSITION TITLE
Middle and High Assistant Principal (Interim, 1-year position)
REPORTS TO
Middle/High PrincipalSUMMARY:
This role is an Interim, 1-year position designed to support the Principals as the educational leader of the school, assist in the administration of all facets of the instructional program, including co-curricular activities. The role collaborates with the Principal(s) in establishing expectations for students learning performance, conduct, and attendance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
(under the guidance of the Principal): Implements federal and state laws, administrative regulations, and School Committee policies, as they apply to the schoolAssists the Principal in the delivery of instruction to students, ensuring that teachers focus on the district curriculum and the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks to meet student needs and requirementsAids the Principal in supervising and evaluating certified and non-certified personnel, as assigned by the PrincipalCollaborates with the Principal in the effective development and management of the budget and school activity fundsEffectively manages an efficient office and record-keeping systemEncourages and facilitates faculty and staff professional growthFosters positive student, parent, and staff relationshipsEncourages positive public relations within and outside of the schoolAssists in hiring and recommending highly qualified staff membersExercising leadership is necessary to make the school facility a safe, attractive, and productive place in which to learn and workDevelops a fair and consistent system for student disciplineAttends School Committee meetings, as requiredMaintains currency in education practices and invests in ones professional developmentAdheres to the standards of the schools accrediting agenciesManages the proper and efficient use and conservation of all assets and resources assigned to the schoolMaintains open lines of communication with the Superintendent and pertinent central office administrators regarding school-based issuesDemonstrates effective command of written and oral languageUtilizes a collaborative leadership stylePerforms other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Middle/High Principal, or their designee
KNOWLEDGE OF
District policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the school district and the school siteState and federal laws relating to contract management, methods, and procedures of supervision and evaluationCurrent education theories and practices
QUALIFICATIONS
Evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability requiredProfessional verification of three years of experience in public school education, including successful experience as a classroom teacher at the applicable level
EDUCATION
Masters Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education administration or a related fieldA valid Massachusetts Department of Education Administrators certificate with applicable level endorsements
