General Superintendent 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars Saco, ME 04072 This position is a highly responsible supervisory and technical position directing the daily operations of the Public Works Department. The Superintendent oversees the foremen and crews in the day-to-day performance of their assigned duties. Duties include short and mid-term planning, project organization and field layout, crew assignments and direction, as well as site inspections to confirm compliance with regulatory practices, city design criteria, and environmental regulation for all sewer, drainage, roadway, and sidewalk infrastructure maintenance and improvements. This position will work with the Director, Deputy Director, Fleet Manager and Facility Manager to develop project priorities, staffing/equipment needs, and carry out personnel assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and develops schedules for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, assigns personnel, and supports employees in their productivity and completion of tasks. Procures materials, schedules subcontractors, and completes dig safe permits to complete projects on schedule. Monitors work progress for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Offers consistent feedback to crew & foreman all while staying positive. Coordinates work assignments with other Managers and Departments to ensure priorities are established and scheduled accordingly. Monitors the conditions of the city roadways, sidewalks and other infrastructure for service and utility. Identifies deficiencies and problems and works with the Director, Deputy Director, Engineer and others to establish a plan for remediation or repair. Prepares reports relating to daily activities, staffing, equipment status, expenditures, and tracks material usage by entering into Iworq, as directed. Assists residents, contractors, utilities, and others with questions, or issues relating to Public Works. Analyzes and evaluates work methods to ensure productivity, efficiency and safety. Will direct winter operations for snow and ice control on all city streets, sidewalks, and parking lots. Ensuring proper material application rates for existing conditions. Communicate any supplies and material needs with Deputy Director. Receives and responds to citizen complaints, monitors the department?s online work order system and appropriately resolves them. Assists in the administration and inspection of street opening permits, road posting exemptions, and site inspections to ensure compliance with city ordinances and other regulations or standards. Assists in the development and preparation of department budgets. Directs and monitors compliance with departmental rules and regulations including safety rules, for compliance with the City, State and Federal regulations. Responsible for new employee orientation and education. Communicate any projects that could affect the traveling public throughout the city to the Deputy Director, to allow for required public notices. May assume the responsibilities and duties of the Deputy Director as required.
