POSITION SUMMARY

 Madison County Schools seeks a dynamic and experienced EL Assistant Director to assist with our educational programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate is responsible for assisting with overseeing and leading the English Learner (EL) program at the school/district level. This leadership role requires the curriculum development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs designed to support students who are English learners (ELs). The EL Assistant Director will work closely with the English Learner Director, teachers, staff, administrators, and families to ensure that students gain proficiency in English and are able to succeed academically. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of the EL program for students with varying levels of English proficiency.

Assist with the development of curriculum and instructional resources tailored to the needs of English learners (ELs), ensuring alignment with state and national standards.

Assist with the supervision of the planning and delivery of EL instruction across grade levels and subject areas.

Monitor and support EL teachers to ensure effective, research-based practicesHelping with the assessment of students’ language proficiency, using formal tools to measure progress in English language acquisition.

Analyze data to identify trends in student performance and make recommendations for program adjustments.

Assisting with management of the EL program budget, ensuring that funds are used effectively to meet the needs of students and staff.

Coordinate with the school leadership team to secure resources and funding for EL related initiatives and materials.

Ensure that the EL program adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, including guidelines for language access, assessment, and reporting.

Maintain accurate records and data on students’ language proficiency and academic progress.

Assist with the preparation of reports related to EL program outcomes, compliance, and other relevant areas.

Collaborate with school administrators and other staff to ensure that English learners receive equitable opportunities and support across the curriculum.

Advocate for the needs of English learners within the broader school community, ensuring their voices are heard and considered in decision-making processes.

EDUCATION

Hold a valid Mississippi Educator License with a 486 endorsement code in Educational Leadership (Required) and the 177 ELL endorsement codeMaster’s degree (or higher) in Educational Leadership 

EXPERIENCE

At least five (5) years of experience teaching EL or working with English learners (ELs).Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an EL or educational setting (preferred).Experience in curriculum development, assessment design, and instructional leadership.

Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to EL education. 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to develop and implement innovative, culturally responsive instructional strategies.

In-depth knowledge of econd language acquisition theories and best practices for EL instruction.

Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional decisions.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders (teachers, families, community organizations, etc.).Fluency in multiple languages is a plus (but not required).
