Student Life Coordinator Job Description The Coordinator of Student Life is responsible for creating a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus experience that supports student connection, leadership, and retention. Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, this position leads student programming efforts and fosters meaningful involvement opportunities on a commuter campus. Key responsibilities include planning and executing student events, advising student leaders and organizations, and collaborating with college staff to promote a strong sense of community. The Coordinator plays a central role in cultivating student life that reflects the college’s mission and supports the overall student experience. Job Duties Student Engagement & Programming Serve as the primary coordinator for all student life events and activities, including but not limited to: Welcome Week, Spring Fever Week, Lagniappe Day, Fall Festival, True Blue and other engagement events and themed celebrations. Develop and implement creative, high-impact programming that fosters student connection, belonging, and campus pride—particularly important for a commuter student population. Lead all planning, budgeting, setup, and assessment for student events under the Student Life umbrella. Collaborate with the Student Services team to assist in the planning and execution of major college-wide events such as New Student Orientation, Graduation/Commencement, Registration Days, and Awards Day Ceremonies. Serve in a supportive, team-based role during these events to help ensure smooth operations, positive student interactions, and a welcoming environment. Plan, implement, and assess student events and activities that enhance campus life, promote inclusion, and increase student engagement. Coordinate student involvement in cultural awareness events (e.g., Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness, etc.). Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of the Reflections Team. Serve as the advisor to the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Maintain and publish a master calendar of student events and ensure compliance with campus policies and procedures. Student Organizations & Club Development Assist in the formation and implementation of new clubs and student organizations, providing guidance through the recognition and chartering process. Serve as a liaison and resource for student organization advisors, offering support, training, and compliance guidance. Oversee active club operations to ensure alignment with college policies, mission, and budgetary practices. Student Government Association (SGA) Advise the SGA, including the executive board and representatives. Oversee elections, budgeting, leadership retreats, and governance initiatives. Support SGA-led events, advocacy efforts, and initiatives to promote the student voice on campus. Leadership Development Coordinate leadership training workshops and co-curricular development opportunities. Serve as a mentor to emerging student leaders and facilitate their participation in local, state, or national leadership conferences. Promote engagement through intentional leadership pathways that support personal and professional growth. Campus Communications & Promotion Promote student life activities and events using social media, email, digital signage, and traditional marketing strategies. Collaborate with the college’s marketing team to highlight student involvement and success stories. Maintain a visible and approachable presence on campus to engage with students and gather feedback. Community Service & Civic Engagement Develop and promote volunteer opportunities and service projects that foster civic responsibility and community connections. Partner with local organizations to coordinate regular service initiatives and drives. Collaboration & Campus Partnerships Collaborate with departments such as Counseling, Career Services, Enrollment Services, and Campus Police to enhance the overall student experience. Serve on college committees and represent the interests of student life in institutional initiatives. Administrative Duties Manage Student Life budgets, including procurement, tracking, and reconciliation of funds. Maintain accurate records and reports of student engagement, attendance, and program assessment. Ensure compliance with campus policies, procedures, and risk management protocols for student events. Crisis Response & Student Support Provide support and referrals for students navigating challenges, connecting them to appropriate campus and community resources. Assist in addressing student behavior concerns and support efforts to maintain a safe and inclusive campus environment. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Support and help implement programs that foster an inclusive and welcoming campus environment. Partner with student groups and college departments to advance equity-focused programming and awareness campaigns. Team & Leadership Role Serve as an active member of both the Student Services team and the campus leadership team, contributing to initiatives that support student success, equity, and engagement. Participate in campus committees, planning groups, and strategy sessions as a representative of student life and the student experience. Maintain strong partnerships across departments to support a cohesive and student-centered campus culture. Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services, the campus Vice President and the district Vice President of Student Services. Mandatory Qualifications (M1) Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in education, recreation, or related field. (M2) Professional experience advising or working with college student groups. (M3) Event planning experience. (M4) Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. (M5) Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Desirable Qualifications (D1) Master’s Degree in education or a related area. (D2) Student activities, recreation, wellness, and/or outdoor leadership experience at the collegiate level.
