ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

Permanent Full-time 12-month position
General Statement of Job
To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Required education
Master’s degree or higher in School Administration.
Valid North Carolina administrator’s license.
Successful assistant principal experience.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Screens, selects, directs and evaluates performance of certified and classified staff members.
Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
Communicates effectively with the business and residential community and participates in civic activities.
Motivates employee performance and enhances morale.
Administers a balanced budget.
Supervises and manages site operation to assure safety and efficiency.
Ability to visualize and implement change.
Follows all rules, policies and procedures of Alexander County Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to all school issues.
Orients and assists new staff members and new students.
Plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates the operations of the school.
Identifies annual objectives for the instructional, extracurricular, and athletic programs of the school.
Supervises and appraises the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements.
Demonstrates positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and innovative team builder.
Maintains inter-school communications and seeks assistance from central services staff to improve performance; maintains good relationships with students, staff and parents; complies with established lines of authority.
Develops an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on results.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Additional duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators and designated by the superintendent.
