Assistant Principal Qualifications A Master’s degree in school administration or currently enrolled in a school administrative program A valid North Carolina administrator’s license At least five years’ successful experience in public education, during which time the candidate has demonstrated superior leadership and organizational skills. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal :
To assist the principal of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Performance Responsibilities :
Follows all rules, policies and procedures of Carteret County Public Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to all school issues. Assists in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating the operations of the school. Works with the principal to conceptualize the broad goals and vison of the school and plans accordingly to ensure the procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program. Assists with identifying annual objectives for the instructional, extracurricular and athletic programs of the school. Involves the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program in alignment with state requirements. Helps maintain up-to-date student performance data to evaluate student progress in the instructional program. Supervises and appraises the performance of the school staff in accordance with state and local requirements. Maintains inter-school communications and seeks assistance from central services staff to improve performance; maintains good relationships with students, staff and parents; complies with established lines of authority. Supports a collaborative work environment utilizing site based management that promotes continuous improvement and emphasizes a sense of community. Assists with the development of an effective professional learning community aligned with the school improvement plan, focused on results. Assists with supervision and conducts personnel administration duties for direct report subordinates including; hiring recommendations, evaluations, assigning special duties, monitoring attendance, and granting leave. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Participates in development and support of the broad school vision. Implements clearly defined disciplinary procedures that have been communicated to students, staff, parents and community. Assists in the completion and supervision of records, requisitions and inventories. Assists in the distribution of supplies, textbooks, equipment, and materials necessary for the operation of the school. Encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with the community in the use of school facilities, interprets the school program for the community, and maintains communication with the community members. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Terms of Employment :
Ten, eleven or twelve month year/Contract/FLSA Exempt Starting Salary and/or
Grade :
Salary based on state assistant principal salary schedule and local supplement schedule.
Evaluation :
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Licensed Employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate with school personnel, students, parents and central office staff. Ability to provide leadership and to supervise the planning, development and establishment of new, modified or improved programs, services and activities. Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and all aspects of Microsoft Office and Google software programs, as well as, software programs implemented by the district or school. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment. Ability to prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job. Comply with confidential requirements in local, state, and federal policies and statutes. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Physically must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Physically maintain the dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job.
