MGSD Chief of Schools Purpose:

The Chief of Schools provides direct support for K-12 principals as well as district instructional staff in their efforts to ensure the school district offers an environment that maximizes opportunity and achievement for students. The leader in this role serves as a highly visible advisor, advocate and champion of K-12 schools. This position serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Team.

Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Educational or School Leadership (Administration or Supervision) with Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership Preferred; Demonstrated Success as a Building Level Principal; Central Office and/or High School Experience Preferred.

K-12 Principals, Director of Elementary Instruction, Director of Secondary Instruction, Director of Research and Accountability, Curriculum & Instruction Administrative Assistant Essential Functions Oversee K-12 Curriculum and Instruction (CI) to ensure alignment and fidelity of rigorous instructional expectations. This includes, but is not limited to; MTSS (academic portion), portrait of a graduate, CTE programming, AIG programming, AP and CCP coursework. Provide direct oversight and management of all curriculum and instruction related budgets. Provide direct support for K-12 principals which includes coaching as well as ongoing guidance as needed through a consistent 1:1 meeting structure. Lead the strategic plan goal area focused on academics, Maximizing Opportunity and Achievement (MOA). Oversee the Career Development Plan (CDP) implementation 6-12. Provide direct oversight for school improvement planning from initial development to monitoring the fidelity of implementation. Lead a framework for professional learning for educators that is targeted to the needs of instructional staff as well as students. Structure school data meetings and lead implementation. Oversee the planning and implementation of the district’s summer instructional programming. Set standard expectations and ensure alignment between schools in regards to consistent delivery of instruction. This includes, but is not limited to; implementation of the universal walkthrough instrument, oversight for master schedule development, student scheduling, field trip guidelines, and curriculum implementation. Address parental concerns that require involvement beyond the school principal. Provide oversight for alternative learning options for students (in conjunction with Chief Student Services Officer and Chief Operations Officer). Lead the creation of and implementation of Leadership Development opportunities (in conjunction with Chief Human Resources Officer). Other Functions Serve as a member of the executive leadership team. Provide presentations to the board of education as needed. Assist with parent, teacher, and student advisory. Participate in district-wide community engagement events as assigned. Attend after-school academic events held at the school and/or district level. Serve on special committees as assigned by the superintendent. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Adept at leading, managing and supporting educators. Ability to critically think, problem-solve, and manage in a fast paced environtment. Highly organized with the ability to manage new priorities. High functioning communication skills with the ability to collaborate with district and school leaders, students, parents and community members. Knowledge of budgeting and financial management practices.

Terms of Employment:

12-month contract with salary commensurate with the NC State Salary Schedule as outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Full benefits package offered with full-time employment.
