Summary
The Moore Innovative High School (MIHS) College Liaison plays a critical role in supporting high school students enrolled in college courses while serving as a deeply embedded and valued member of the MIHS community. This position ensures smooth coordination between Moore Innovative High School (MIHS) and Sandhills Community College (SCC). This position supports recruitment, registration, program planning and growth, and compliance with state regulations. The liaison will be expected to build rapport with SCC instructors, high school staff, Moore County Schools administration, parents, and students and to develop an effective and beneficial partnership among all constituents. This position is a part of a larger team that serves all eligible high school students interested in enrolling in the Career and College Promise Program at Sandhills Community College. Essential Functions
Recruit high school students to participate in the Career and College Promise program. Participate in outreach initiatives and recruitment efforts within the department and college wide. Play an active role in the student selection process, including scoring applications, participating in the interview process, and selecting students for enrollment.
Participate in evening and weekend events located on campus and at off campus sites and in the community.
Serve as admission and registration contact for students in the CCP program and maintain records throughout the student’s enrollment in CCP. Advise and enroll students in SCC courses based on student’s identified pathway and/degree. Conduct follow-up and customer service functions regarding dual enrollment courses for MIHS high school students, their officials, and the community. Attend parent meetings and MIHS school events to provide information, answer questions, and develop positive relationships. Address parent concerns and questions related to student academic performance in corresponding college courses. Support MIHS leadership by providing data to meet annual reporting requirements.
Report grades to county high schools. Work with Student Services staff to ensure compliance with CCP regulations with both the North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Serve as a liaison between SCC instructors and high school staff. Provide academic support to SCC instructors teaching high school students. Serve on campus committees as requested. Build positive relationships between Sandhills Community College and the Moore County school district. Coordinate and facilitate orientations and information sessions for students, staff, counselors, and parents. Collaborate with all stakeholders as appropriate to identify resources and needs to aid in student access and success. Connect with college resources to include Sandhills Community College Workforce Development Corporate Partnerships to facilitate and support job shadowing and internship opportunities based on student interests or school needs. Coordinate with the MIHS school counselor to plan and create instructional opportunities and organize seminar experiences such as guest speakers, college tours, and student support services on campus.
Respond to emails from students, colleagues, Department Chairs, Deans, VPS, and President in a timely and professional fashion. Remain available, responsive, and approachable while working with advisees and/or students. Demonstrate respect for advisees and/or students as individuals; this includes respecting the confidentiality of information shared while interacting. Maintain knowledge and awareness of SCC policies/procedures and incorporate those policies/procedures in records/reports in a timely manner. Work in partnership with colleagues and students across campus to identify and address needs/resources that will ensure student success for all students. Attend educational opportunities that enhance knowledge of best practices for dual enrollment students. Advance the college’s mission and core values of respect, opportunity, helpfulness, integrity, and excellence. Collaborate with colleagues to create and distribute mass communications related to student college course enrollment and success. Maintain and manage the textbook inventory to include textbook ordering and distribution based on student needs each semester. Collaborate with Financial Aid and Business Office to support accurate financial accounts for course related fees. Manage student records to include pathway changes in Ellucian Colleague to ensure compliance with state regulations. Help facilitate and support student and parent conversations with faculty as needed. Assist and support with student technology needs to include account set-up and accessing digital course materials. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field. Two or more years of advising, mentoring, career guidance, outreach, or recruitment experience in a K – 12 or higher education setting. Experience in collaborating closely with parents and members of the community. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated commitment to promoting college access for all students.
