POSITION TITLE

Student Services Specialist

REPORTS TO

Chief of Human Resources and Student Services and Human Resources and Student Services Executive Director

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school leadership, district leadership, and the community
Ability to develop and maintain harmonious and productive working relationships
Ability to engage in effective de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies with all members of the school community
Ability to represent the school system in a positive fashion to a variety of audiences
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
Proficiency with current technology
Working knowledge of North Carolina School Law and Local Board of Education Policies
Ability to prepare accurate and professional documents and reports

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

North Carolina Educator License required
Minimum three years’ experience as an educator
Prior Related Experience in Student Services preferred
Master of School Administration Degree preferred

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

12 Months

SALARY:

Teacher State Salary Schedule or Central Office Salary Schedule (Dependent Upon Credentials/Experience)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate student enrollment and assignment processes, including transfer requests, out-of-district placements, and magnet school applications, ensuring compliance with district policies and timelines.
Handle sensitive student and personnel information with discretion and maintain confidentiality in accordance with district and legal standards.
Engage in effective de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies with all members of the school community.
Facilitate and convey resolutions to parent and community concerns.
Work closely and cooperatively with the lead school nurse, lead school social worker, and lead school counselor to implement and improve district student services.
Review and evaluate potential programs and strategies for promoting student well-being and academic success.
Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s mental health plan, ensuring alignment with state requirements and best practices.
Serve as a liaison between school and district leadership.
Address and follow up on student safety or conduct concerns submitted through anonymous reporting tools, digital monitoring systems, or other reporting mechanisms.
Serve as a member of the Human Resources and Student Services Leadership Team.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of district policies and state regulations related to student services.
Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting student services data to evaluate program impact and guide improvements.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of district and department goals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
Ability to operate technology for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds routinely and 30 pounds occasionally.
Must possess sufficient auditory and visual capabilities to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and parents in a variety of settings.
Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
