Position Overview The Dean of Pedagogy & Instruction (DPI) plays a pivotal role in shaping a positive, student-centered, and growth-driven school culture while ensuring instructional excellence aligned with Waldorf methodologies and North Carolina academic standards . This role is designed for educators with direct knowledge of and experience with Waldorf philosophy and practices. As a key member of the School Leadership Team , the DPI serves as a bridge between faculty and administration , leading professional development, instructional coaching, community engagement, and school culture initiatives to foster a nurturing and academically rigorous learning environment . This role is ideal for an educational leader who is passionate about building strong school communities, coaching teachers, and fostering a culture of growth and success for both students and staff .
Key Responsibilities:
School Culture & Student Support Cultivate and uphold a structured, inclusive, and achievement-oriented school culture rooted in Waldorf values and best practice. Ensure vertical alignment across grade levels , fostering a culturally affirming curriculum that reflects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students. Lead in-school and out-of-school programming to bring the school community together and promote a sense of belonging and shared purpose . Support teachers in implementing effective classroom management strategies , including student engagement, restorative practices, and best practices in fostering a positive and responsive classroom environment , in alignment with our Instructional Leadership & Professional Development Lead grade-level teams , providing weekly oversight for their PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings and serving as a liaison between administration and PLC leaders for successful implementation. Develop and facilitate onboarding training to immerse new staff members in the traditions, best practices, and Waldorf methodologies of the school. Design and implement a structured teacher training and coaching program to enhance instructional effectiveness. Conduct classroom observations and provide targeted, actionable feedback through one-on-one coaching and bi-weekly professional development workshops . Lead school-wide professional development , ensuring teachers have access to high-impact best practices for student engagement, curriculum development and academic success. Support curriculum development and instructional planning to maintain alignment with Waldorf methodologies and NC academic standards . Facilitate collaborative learning spaces , including co-observations, peer coaching, and model lessons. Community & Family Engagement Oversee the Festivals Committee and lead community engagement initiatives , including school festivals, outreach programs, and family engagement events . Develop and implement strategies to foster strong family-school partnerships , including family workshops and ongoing communication efforts . Oversee the onboarding process for new families , ensuring a smooth transition into the school community . Organize and facilitate family engagement events , such as Coffee & Conversations, Family Feasts, and Parent Workshops .
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education Extensive experience in Waldorf education or Waldorf teaching certification Active NC Teaching License or ability to seek reciprocity 5 years of full-time teaching experience with a strong record of instructional excellence Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in education Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills , with experience supporting teachers in instructional growth Experience in student culture, discipline, and behavior management Ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, families, and school leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education, Leadership, or Human Services 5+ years of full-time teaching experience in a K-8 setting Waldorf teaching certification or direct Waldorf teaching or leadership experience Why Join Us?
