The principal will provide direct oversight and support to middle and high school teaching staff and play a key leadership role in teacher development, student discipline, and school operations. Working closely with the Head of School, the Principal will ensure instructional excellence, promote a positive school culture, and contribute to the ongoing success of the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership & Teacher Support Oversee and support the instructional staff in grades 6-12, fostering a culture of high expectations, continuous growth, and professional excellence. Conduct classroom observations focused on instructional effectiveness, curriculum implementation, and student engagement. Collaborate with the Head of School to conduct performance-based evaluations that assess both instructional practices and overall job performance. Provide actionable feedback and coaching to teachers to strengthen instructional strategies and classroom management. Professional Development Lead the design, coordination, and delivery of ongoing professional development for middle and high school faculty. Identify teacher learning needs and organize training sessions aligned with school priorities, best practices, and data-informed instructional goals. Facilitate teacher collaboration, professional learning communities (PLCs), and cross-grade articulation. Student Discipline & Culture Serve as the lead administrator for student discipline in grades 6-12, working closely with other administrative staff to ensure consistent, fair, and developmentally appropriate discipline practices. Uphold and model the school’s behavioral expectations and support a safe and respectful school climate. Partner with students, staff, and families to proactively address behavioral concerns and promote restorative practices when appropriate. Organizational Leadership & Collaboration Work collaboratively with the Head of School to support school-wide initiatives, policies, and strategic planning. Participate in leadership meetings, parent engagement efforts, and data analysis to improve school performance. Maintain clear communication with staff, students, and families to support academic success and a positive school experience.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field. North Carolina Principal Licensure (or eligibility required). Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in school leadership, preferably in a middle or high school setting. Proven success in instructional coaching, teacher evaluation, and student discipline management. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to build relationships and lead collaboratively.
