Position Summary:

The Academic Advisor will provide holistic advising for students (primarily first year students) throughout the academic year. They will work closely with the CSS advising team and liaison with designated schools/departments on campus. They may also facilitate advising and academic success workshops and support the Associate Director and Pathway Advisors with the instruction of first year orientation courses. Other related duties, as assigned.

Main Responsibilities:

Advise assigned cohort of students: Provide proactive outreach for in person/virtual advising meetings throughout the semester Follow up with students regarding academic progress, providing additional support as needed Maintain accurate, confidential records for all advisees Facilitate group advising sessions and provide support for CSS workshops and first year orientation courses. Provides supplemental support to CSS populations (for example, Undeclared-General, Pathway students, transfer students) as needed, while also serving as a point of contact for walk-in students who need supplemental advising and academic coaching. Establish and maintain effective communications and cooperative working relationships with the College’s administration, academic departments, faculty/staff, to accomplish the goals and objectives of the CSS. Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals and learning outcomes containing recommendations for the CSS by compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting statistical program data.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of 1 – 2 years in a student-facing support role at the high school or college level, with a strong desire to support students. Experience collaborating with staff, faculty, and students. Experience with small and large group advising and/or workshop facilitation. Experience collecting and interpreting data, report writing, and effectively communicating data/reports to campus stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse population of undergraduate students (and families). Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and work within college policy. Strong understanding of academic advising approaches, first year advising, and academic coaching. Demonstrated ability to use technology (social media, Canvas, PeopleSoft) to promote student welfare and success. Excellent interpersonal/teamwork skills in a strong collaborative environment.
