JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Haven Charter High School is the first SUNY-authorized Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school in NYC focused on the Health Sciences sector. Opening in July 2025 with an inaugural class of 120 9th graders, Haven will offer students real pathways to both college and career success. Central to our model is the Primary Person system—each student is paired with a dedicated advisor who serves as their consistent advocate, mentor, and support throughout high school. We are seeking passionate professionals to join our Founding Advisory Team. This is a unique opportunity to help launch a mission-driven school that puts relationships, responsiveness, and equity at the center.
Reporting to the Director of Student Support, advisors at Haven Charter High School (HCHS) are responsible to support students by planning and implementing an appropriate advisory program to meet the unique needs of all students in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Director of Student support services the Student Advisor will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Be a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 55-60 students
Conduct weekly Advisory Sessions with caseload utilizing Social Emotional Learning Curriculum
Conduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseload
Conduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional development
Document all interactions with students on PowerSchools, Google suites.
Conduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone or home visit
Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance
Refer students to social services supports as needed
Track student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plans
Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development.
Meeting with students and families and supporting enrollment process.
Provide coverage at morning entry, Lunch periods, Hallway transitions and dismissal
Participate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities
Provide other program support functions as required
Maintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips required
Some evenings, weekends, and remote work required

Supervisory Responsibility

Physical Demands

EXPECTED WORK SCHEDULE
Full-Time | Monday

Occasional evenings or weekends may be required based on school needs or special events.

Qualifications
EDUATCATION/EXPERIENCE
B.A/ B.S.W. with at least two years’ experience with youth-related work.
