Director of Special Education – job responsibilities
Direct supervision of three Executive Principals and two Assistant Principals. Bi-monthly Building Administrator meetings
Monitor and review placement referrals to ensure that they are processed and reviewed within two weeks of receiving all required documentation, and that a decision is made regarding the placement within this timeframe. Review all requests from building administration for denied placements and evaluate them on their merits. Conduct meetings with the SCBTA to discuss and implement a successor APPR plan for the unit under 3012e.
Work with Sue Zieres-Teeple to assign APPR evaluations for the 2025-2026 school year. Monitor completion and send reminders to the building admin as needed.
Serve as the primary point of contact with representatives from our component districts on all matters relating to our special education and alternative education programs.
Conduct monthly CSE/PPS chair meetings.
Attend the Statewide Network for Special Education (monthly virtually, 3 times a year in person).
Attend weekly Senior Management Team meetings at the Office and Conference Center (OCC).
Assure that professional development for all conference days is planned and coordinated with the responsible administrator. Create job descriptions and delineation of duties for the clerical staff in the RPEC office. Overall responsibility for the supervision and programming of Speceal Education and Alternative Education
Requirements:
NYS Admin Certification and relevant teaching and admin exp.; knowledge of state/fed special education regulations and strong management and interpersonal skills
