Successful candidates must be progressive minded, and embody a can-do spirit and work ethic. For best consideration, candidates should have at least 5 years of teaching experience, prior experience in a leadership position, a demonstrated track record of success in inclusive special education, and a “whatever it takes” attitude to ensure that all students succeed at a high level.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Special Education Director works to ensure that the Environmental Charter School’s special education programs reflect best practices and a student centered approach to learning in the least restrictive environment. This includes the supervision of special education teachers, communicating and building relationships with parents, and ensuring that the school operates in compliance with special education law and procedures at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpret and articulate special education regulations, policies, and procedures to all ECS stakeholders Support the system wide special education strategic and programmatic vision Supervise the Special Education Teachers and collaborate with other student services team members to develop standardized processes, forms, and protocols for all special education procedures Conduct and lead school-based special education related meetings Oversee the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of IEP-mandated accommodations for students with special needs during state/local testing event Lead monthly department meetings in order to provide ongoing professional development and leadership to special education staff members Provide resources, workshops, and on-going training to school staff on special education practices Provide support for the implementation of intervention programs Serve as a point of contact and resource for special education families Provide resources, workshops, and on-going training to ECS families on special education practices Communicate regularly with families to develop a supportive home-school relationship Educational Background and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution Master’s degree in Special Education preferred Supervisor of Special Education Certification Minimum of 5 years combined teaching and leadership experience Experience leading and collaborating with adults Familiarity with charter schools Compensation and Benefits Minimum starting salary $87,169 with consideration given for prior relevant experience Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, short-, and long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, and participation in a generous 403b retirement plan.
