Assistant Principal 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 1203 Lake St, Girard, PA 16417 SUMMARY The assistant principal’s primary role is to aid the Building Principal in the supervision and management of school and to assume the duties and functions of the Principal in his/her absence so that each student achieves, to the highest degree possible, the goals and objectives as stated in the Girard School District Mission Statement/Vision. The assistant principal also provides district-wide administrative services as delineated.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- A valid teaching certificate
- Successful experience as a classroom teacher
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
- A Master’s Degree or beyond 30 credit hours of graduate work
- A valid principal’s certificate
- Experience at a related administrative level
- Experience in school supervision of programs and activities
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education and the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in performing the following responsibilities: 1. Cooperates with the business office personnel in the administration of the school’s programs. 2. Evaluates the school’s program and makes recommendations for its improvement. 3. Interprets the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the District program to administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the public. 4. Interprets Board policies to personnel, to parents and the community at large. 5. Assists in the development of the annual District budget. 6. Assists in responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students. 7. Assists in continuous curriculum development and revision. 8. Assists in guidance in the selection and use of textbooks and other teacher materials. 9. Works with teachers in the preparation of curriculum materials. 10. Encourages classroom experimentation and research. 11. Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students in accordance with the District policies and the School Code. 12. Keeps in touch with the characteristics and concerns of students. 13. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students. 14. Evaluates all personnel in their performance areas with the purpose of: a. Observing a particular segment of a program or activity for the first hand knowledge of the operation of that program or activity. b. Providing constructive criticism for that program or activity and trying to help it reach high levels of achievement. c. Channeling or seeking resource material or personnel to aid a program or activity. d. Helping the personnel involved in a program or activity grow professionally by means of education, supervision, organization, and/or materials for the improvement of instruction. e. Providing the School District with a documented recommendation for the continuance/non-continuance of an employee contract. 15. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, in accordance with Board policies on Student Rights and Responsibilities. 16. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 17. Assist in the in-service programs of the school and District. 18. Plans and supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness programs. 19. Ensures that the school facilities, and the atmosphere reflected, promotes a friendly, safe, and healthful learning and living environment for students, faculty, staff, and community. 20. Maintains efficient systems of record keeping for all areas in the school program that relate to the accounting of equipment, materials, supplies and money. 21. Continually seeks to improve his/her own skills, abilities, and knowledge by attendance and participation in meetings, conferences, programs, committees, clinics, and/or schooling related to education and education administration with prior approval. 22. Provides for and encourages the staff, faculty, and students to participate in the decision making process to enable better decisions to be made. 23. Maintains a current knowledge of all District programs and works actively toward K-12 articulation of the total curriculum. 24. Attends all regular meetings of the Board of Education and such other meetings as required by the Superintendent. 25. Ability to work as an integral part of a team. 26.
