DESCRIPTION
Basic Functions:
The Assistant Elementary School Principal/Virtual Academy supervisor supports the creation of a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that nurtures the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. As a key instructional and operational leader, the Assistant Principal collaborates with staff, families, and community partners to implement developmentally appropriate practices, foster a culture of high expectations, and promote student-centered learning. This role emphasizes leadership in curriculum implementation, staff support, and proactive student management while ensuring equity, continuous improvement, and strong home-school connections.
In addition, the Assistant Principal will provide direct oversight of the district’s K-12 virtual learning program. Responsibilities in this area include ensuring student engagement and progress in virtual platforms, coordinating and supervising the Distance Learning Coordinator, monitoring attendance and performance, maintaining regular communication with families, and aligning virtual learning experiences with district expectations.
This 245-day ACT 93 position is a member of the district’s leadership team and reports to the Building Principal and Secondary Curriculum Director.
Education & Experience:
The requirements for this position are a minimum of

The Assistant Elementary School Principal/Virtual Academy Supervisor must possess a strong understanding of district curricula, instructional practices, and student support systems. This position requires demonstrated leadership ability and a collaborative mindset to engage staff in shared decision-making and continuous school improvement.

Ability to effectively communicate school and district goals to students, staff, parents, and community members. Skilled in fostering positive relationships and promoting a student-centered culture, both in traditional and virtual learning environments.
Instructional Support:
Knowledge of educational programming and the capacity to support high-quality instruction through observation, feedback, and data-informed decision-making. In virtual settings, ensures instructional alignment with district standards and supports the Distance Learning Coordinator.
Behavioral and Operational Oversight:
Proficient in monitoring school climate, student behavior, and attendance, with a focus on proactive interventions and restorative practices. For virtual learners, facilitates implementation of support plans to address participation, behavior, or performance issues.
Adaptability and Problem-Solving:
Able to make timely, sound decisions, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain composure and professionalism in dynamic environments. Demonstrates flexibility in managing the unique challenges of virtual learning, including scheduling, technology access, and remote family engagement.
Technology Proficiency:
Familiar with educational and administrative technologies, including the use of data systems for student management, communication, and reporting. Oversees virtual learning platforms, ensures appropriate use of learning management systems, and troubleshoots issues impacting student access or progress.
Virtual Program Oversight:
Provides oversight of the day-to-day operations of the virtual learning program, including student enrollment, orientation, academic monitoring, and communication with families. Collaborates with guidance counselors and principals to align virtual supports with in-person services and maintains consistent expectations for student success.
Authority & Responsibilities:

Assists the Building Principal in completing his/her duties and responsibilities. (E)
Assists the Building Principal in supervising the process of dealing with issues related to the student’s education program, conduct, discipline, and attendance. Additional requirements include accurate record keeping and promoting parental involvement in their child’s education. (E)
Assists the Building Principal in addressing issues related to students’ educational programs. This includes supporting academic interventions, promoting inclusive practices, and encouraging parent involvement to enhance student learning and success. (E)
Supports the administration in managing student conduct and disciplinary matters by implementing consistent behavior expectations, investigating incidents, and applying appropriate interventions. Works to promote a positive, respectful, and safe school environment. (E)
Monitors and addresses student attendance concerns, including identifying patterns of absenteeism and working with families to improve attendance. Maintains accurate records and ensures compliance with district and state attendance policies. (E)
Assists in the implementation of the curriculum and monitoring classroom instruction to ensure that the District Curriculum is delivered to all students both in person and virtually. (E)
Provides educational leadership in staff development and educational programs, and assists the Building Principal and Elementary Curriculum Supervisor in district wide curriculum inservice training for teachers. (E)
Completes annual and periodic evaluations of staff and programs as required by state regulations and/or District policy. (E)
Participates in screening process for students with special needs and assists with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). (E)
Assists the Building Principal in developing and managing a budget for the school.
Responsible for developing, facilitating, and implementing a comprehensive recruitment plan for families who are in external cyber programs. (E)
Provides oversight and leadership of the districts K-12 Virtual Academy, including supervision of the Distance Learning Coordinator. (E)
Assists the Building Principal, Elementary Curriculum Supervisor, and Secondary Curriculum Director in the development and fiscal management of curricular areas including the Virtual Academy budget and billing. (E)
Ensures communication with other administrators is occurring throughout the school year with students entering and leaving the virtual program. Ensures all district procedures are followed for the virtual academy.
Implements policies and practices of the District. (E)
Participates in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of building staff and shares the responsibility for the induction of new staff members. (E)
Administers appropriate provisions of negotiated contracts with employee groups and organizations providing services to the schools.
Completes reports as required by central office personnel in fulfillment of federal, state, and local needs. (E)
Is able to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds and as necessary. (E)
Is able to speak and write in a clear, concise manner. (E)
Provides his/her own transportation to attend meetings (called by central office), approved seminar/conferences, and/or assigned District committees. (E)
Supervises the ordering, inventory, and distribution of instructional and non-instructional supplies and materials.
Is able to maintain a flexible schedule. (E)
Participates in legal proceedings as they relate to the welfare of the students. (E)
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal, the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Physical Requirements:
VERY HEAVY- Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This position may involve the controlling of others—seizing, holding, controlling and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive or physically threatening persons to defend self or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is required.
Auditory and Visual Requirements:
Within normal ranges with or without correction.
