AdministrativeSummary of Assistant Principal PositionThe Assistant Principal at Peace Dale Elementary School serves the role of Early Childhood Coordinator for the district, as well as monitoring the PBIS programming for the school. Reporting to and working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principals primary responsibilities include assisting in monitoring the learning environment for expected behavior, ensuring high levels of teaching and learning

for PreSchool meetings, and engaging in all responsibilities of the ECC/PreSchool Coordinator roles. The ideal candidate will know how to cultivate a caring, supportive, and inclusive school community and demonstrate an ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels and backgrounds. They will assist the principal in the overall administration of instructional programs and school operations while having experience or willingness to learn about early childhood education.

Education/Certification/Teaching Experience:

Master’s Degree (Minimum), Appropriate RI Administrative Licensure, Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience or Prior Administrative experience preferredRequired QualificationsDemonstrated skill in developing and maintaining a rigorous academic program that meets the needs of all students.

Passion for improving educational opportunities for all students and for building a strong, highly effective organization aligned to this mission.

Special Education and/or Early Childhood experience is preferred.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Understanding of Special Education regulations and roles and responsibilities of the IEP team.

Ability to manage and collaborate with the PreSchool staff.

Ability to identify appropriate metrics and use qualitative and quantitative data to assess performance and drive goals and decision-making.

Demonstrated skill in building and developing a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the school’s vision and goals.

Understanding of the pillars of PBIS.Understanding of progressive discipline and prioritizing safety and positive behavior

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Collaborate with the Principal to plan and facilitate professional development opportunities for teachers that support instructional best practices.

Experiences in the use of de-escalation strategies such as Safety Care or similar training Develop, implement, and oversee a discipline structure that encompasses Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports and Restorative Practices. Understanding of the budget development process.

Understanding or willingness to learn and lead the IEP process for PreSchool including the Early Intervention Referral process.

Understanding or willingness to learn about early childhood education.

Major ResponsibilitiesLEA for PreSchool meetings and Early Intervention ReferralsEarly Childhood Coordinator for the districtAssists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.

Assume responsibility for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of certified faculty and support personnel assigned.

Coordinate and participate in Special Education and 504 meetings.

Maintains high standards of student conduct & establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.

Participate in all school meetings and other district meetings as directed.

Supervise PreSchool Certified Staff and Teaching Assistants.

Supervise and evaluate certified staff PK-5.Supervise and evaluate Teaching Assistants.

Conduct parent/teacher conferences on a regular basis.

Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in district and site professional growth programs.

As required, prepares various statistical and other reports relating to such matters as attendance, enrollment figures, and special reports required by the School Administration. Maintain a visible presence in the school, on the campus, and at school-sponsored activities.

Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.

Perform additional special assignments/related duties at the direction of the Principal or Superintendent of Schools.
