Ralph Chandler Middle School is dedicated to preparing 21st century learners by promoting Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity. The school honors the legacy of Ralph Chandler by fostering strong relationships, supporting responsible digital citizenship, and maintaining a student-centered community. A new addition to the school will be opening Fall 2027. Ralph Chandler offers a wide range of specialized programs, including Club Time during the school day, a PBIS program, OnTrack early intervention, peer mentoring, and an Advisory program. Students have access to Gifted and Talented Language Arts, a school-wide self-selected reading program, the SC Junior Book Award Reading Program, and a state-of-the-art media center. Fine arts opportunities include band, strings, chorus, and drama, along with virtual classes in creative writing and personal finance. Core requirements of a Greenville County Schools principal candidate are aligned to the SC Program for Assisting Developing and Evaluating Principal Performance (PADEPP) Standards. The PADEPP standards are derived from the nationally adopted PSEL standards.
- Creates and sustains a vision aligned to the Greenville County Schools Strategic Education Plan. (PS 1)
- Develops, implements and monitors the school improvement plan to improve student learning in all areas. (PS 1)
- Ensures continuous improvement for all learners through high expectations, results-focus, and strong data-based decision making skills. (PS 1)
- Uses a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support approach to advance student achievement and meet the needs of all learners. (PS 2)
- Supports teachers and students to enhance teaching and learning in a personalized learning environment. (PS 2)
- Utilizes student achievement data and methods to increase student performance through collaboration with school, district, and community resources and supports. (PS 2)
- Serves as the administrative head of the school and maintains responsibility for coordination of the total resources of the school including personnel, financial, and facility. (PS 3)
- Provides supervision and oversight for the extracurricular and after school programs and activities. (PS 3)
- Recruits, monitors, supports, evaluates, retains, and ensures high quality performance of teachers and staff who implement the vision and mission of the school and district. (PS 3)
- Work cooperatively with district level staff to ensure the school functions at a high level of success. (PS 3)
- Serves as the administrative head of the school and, as such, has responsibility for coordination of the total resources of the school and the general supervision of all school activities, safety, and welfare. (PS 3)
- Assigns all professional staff within the building in accordance with their certification and competency. (PS 3)
- Supports a strong, positive school culture and climate focused on student social/emotional growth and development matched with high expectations. (PS 4)

A Successful Ralph Chandler Principal:
- Is familiar and experienced with middle school methodology and practices that improve achievement. Possesses a strong passion for arts-based education and has experience implementing a strong arts focused curriculum and program.
- Is active in the community working to secure partnerships with businesses and groups to enhance the experiences of the school.
- Selects technology that is consistent with latest trends and secures training for staff on integration of new resources.
- Is experienced with diverse student learner populations and skilled in increasing student achievement with diverse student learner groups.
Education and Experience Required:
- A minimum earned Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
- Valid South Carolina elementary or secondary principal’s certificate
- Three to five years of teaching and administrative/supervisory experience.
Building Level Administrative/Supervisory Salary Schedule (BUILDG) – 245 Days Grade A4 Range ($94,282- $143,655) Placement on salary schedule includes several factors to include experience.
