GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision providesvisionary leadership and strategic direction for a specializededucational environment designed to support students innon-traditional school settings. The Director oversees all aspectsof the school’s operations, including curriculum development, staffsupervision and professional development, student support services,and collaboration with families, referring schools, and communityresources. Ultimately, the Director is responsible for creating andmaintaining a program that empowers students to address concerns,re-engage with their education, and successfully transition back totheir home schools or pursue alternative pathways to graduation andpost-secondary success
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals ofLexington County School District One towards increased outcomes forstudents. Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholderseffectively. Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive workingand learning environment. Operates general office and technology equipment needed fordaily activities. Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and studentinformation. Participates in all professional meetings and training sessionsas required. Requests and maintains materials needed for dailyresponsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storageand proper use of all tools, equipment and materials. Assists in the development of general system policies andprocedures; develops and executes building rules, regulations andprocedures consistent with general system policies. Communicates and coordinates a collaborative effort to transferstudents to/from the home school and Alternative EducationalServices. Stays abreast of innovative trends and research studies in thefield of at-risk education and interprets their potentialusefulness within the framework of the total school program;demonstrates lifelong learning. Supervises and is responsible for the care and operation of theNorth Lake Community Learning Center campus, including all schoolbuildings, equipment, materials and grounds. Executes a program for recruitment, selection, assignment,orientation and other related personnel activities for the assignedprogram. Evaluates certified and support personnel in accordance withstate and school board policies and procedures. Recommends employment and dismissal of personnel in accordancewith district personnel policies and procedures. Ensures effective professional learning for staff. Assists in the selection and distribution of all instructionalmaterials and supplies. Demonstrates characteristics such as competence, leadership,strong work ethics, personal integrity, professional demeanor, etc.to promote a positive image of the school and district. Evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summativeassessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to studentlearning and develops instructional strategies to close thelearning and performance gap. Monitors program budgets and manages funds appropriately;seeks, makes application (when applicable), monitors and evaluatesall federal and state grant funding programs; submits requiredreports as necessary. Ensures all contractual agreements are approved by appropriatedistrict personnel before commitments or other forms of obligationsare made. Assists in the preparation of various district, state andfederal assessments and reports as required for monitoring andimplementing alternative education programs. Assists in the supervision of students in school-sponsoredevents, including before and after school activities. Plans, organizes and implements the facility’s emergencypreparedness plan. Effectively uses personal computing devices and softwareapplications for the management of student records, instructionalefficiency and professional development. SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for materials and supplies budget(s) asassigned.
Supervises certified and classified staff members asassigned.
OTHER SKILLS and
ABILITIES
Ability to perform duties withawareness of all district requirements and Lexington County SchoolDistrict One Board policies.
Personal computer experience required.
Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets,electronic file management, the internet, and reporting andpresentation software.
Ability to establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships with students, staff and the schoolcommunity. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral andwritten communication. Ability to apply knowledge and currentresearch and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexiblework schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines.
Ability toself-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individuallyand with members of a group.
Ability to submit all requested reportsand documentation in a timely manner and in accordance withscheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands fromseveral people are frequently required of the employee. Computerliteracy required.
